+1 on the bug comment. VW on steroids....

FWIW, I like 928s. Around here we call our 911 Track cars (my RS for example) "aero beetles".

I had a great time with 911 (and 944) owners last month. We had a Porsche drive. Almost all of the 911 owner's came by to look and liked the car.

Bob, your RS is not a 911. Its a waterpumper therefore does not qualify to be a 911.
You should really hang out with the 928 guys and the other waterpumper varieties

My dad's pals would tell him that his 911 was a VW bug with lockwashers. I always suspected that got under his skin a bit......but he never let it show. He knew it was a special car.

He was old school. A Porsche was a Porsche - regardless of the model. He added a 928S years later. I don't think his friends 'got' the 928 either. Less flack from them though....probably because they had driven with him in the car. It was as special as the 911.

Most criticism like that comes from folks (pals?) who've never owned one, have owned a beetle, and are trying to gain perspective of the differences while lying flat on their backs looking up. In spite of some common heritage, they are different as night and day. Same goes for the 928. Criticism comes from folks who have yet to experience one in its native environment, but have heard from others with similar lack of experience that the 928 is somehow a bad car.

Sitting in the Toyota dealer waiting room yesterday (K's 4Runner got a new battery under warranty), I chanced to read the Motor Trend review of the latest 911 as a candidate for MT car of the year. The description included things like "affordable supercar", which it certainly is. Criticism came for the very dated interior styling, which like much of the design and styling are retained to keep the loyal buyers loyal. I guess when you drive new car designs every day, the familiar yet functional stuff seems dated. Nonetheless, I'd welcome a current 911 into the garage without a moment of hesitation. It would add more variety to the available driving experiences here.

I wave at all other Pcars.
I don't remember a 911 driver ever waving at me in either my 911 or my 928. It may be an old school thing. Or they could just be....

I'm sure it varies by region and locale.

Most 911 drivers here either wave or "flash" when they see the 928 or the 911, but Panamera, Cayenne and Boxster drivers rarely acknowledge a wave or flash. Probably an owner demographic thing for the most part.

911 owners in the local PCA Region are great people and they show a great deal of interest in the 928 at local events and get-togethers. Actually get more interest and questions from them regarding the 928 than for the Turbo.

Or maybe thats what RennTech.org is for?

Oh well, end of rant.

Ask him if his 911 was the worlds fastest production car in 1987..
Or ask him how he can actually eat and drive and not have airplane food waiting when he gets up to speed
