plus what's this 911 vs 928 thing? is it because 928's can't beat the 951's that you guys are picking on the 911 beetles? we all know 911's are for concourse shows only, what else can they be good for?
Btw the camera that was mounted on that 944 Turbo is available for purchase

Everyone has great cars and most Porsches do very well for the purpose that they were designed for. Most of what determines who wins has to do with the track size or the particular car or driver. The 928 might have the most impressive modern win over the last few years. I am referring to Carl Fausett's 3rd overall, and fastest 2 wheel drive car in the Pikes Peak Climb two years ago. That "free for all" is my idea of challenging a car to its limits.

I wasn't going to contribute my opinion to this over worked thread. But then decieded that why the hell not.
I traded my 71 911T in on the "Polecat" in 74. And have never given it a 2nd thought. There's no way to compare either car.
In my observations, most 911 owners are like the current crop of wannabe biker Harley owners. I'm a real biker, Hells Angel charter member, and have built every bike I own, except my 03 V-Rod. They're all show, and no substance.
I bought my first 928, cause I liked the way it looked, and didn't know squat about the car. If I had known about RL, and read some of the horror stories, I prolly would have passed up on one of the most rewarding experiences of my life!
The 928 is a fantastic car, even by today's standards. But the best thing about the " Shark " is the other owners. Only my club brothers are as loyal, and as helpful as the people I've met owning this, my 2nd 928.
For the most part, 911 owners are snobby little dickweeds. Just like the Ferrari, and Lambo owners I've met. But when it's all out there, it's time to put up or STFU, they wet their leg, and come up with some excuse why their hotdog ride can't hold it's own with my Pantera.
BTW, the 911 clowns don't run their mouth around me either. As I recall my 71 911 was Lawn Boy green too. I would like to own a 930 turbo, but I'd rather have a Mangusta!

despite the 928's high top end, i think the 944 Turbo Cup cars in full tune were superior to the 928S4, and the combination of speed and handling, made them a true '80s supercar. exceeded only by the arrival of the 959 and F-40 (which blew the doors off everything, of course)....
the 944Ts were that good. and many still are.
sadly, over time, many of the 944Ts have been neglected...
and if you get one that was *neglected, it can be one of the worst ****boxes ever.
luckily, most of the owners find the Parts Guy....
and after he cuts up a bunch of cars, many others are saved....
otherwise, i'm not convinced these cars are aging well.
for those who aren't so lucky....
the stages of ownership often goes something like this.....
1. uber enthusiasm. "i just got me a P O R S C H E !!" for pennies.![bigbye](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/xyxwave.gif)
2. tuning envy. saving up to spend a few dozen thousand dollars and what
3. delusional.... "will absolutely become the greatest P-car ever...."
4. apologist; making a thousand excuses on behalf of Porsche (to any and all posting their latest calamities on RL), and saying, (endlessly), galactically stupid things like; 'hey, if you do the routine mantenance the cars are great....." "oh, you f_cked up somewhere..... that's the only reason why it could have broke..... dumbass."
5. fed up..... for f_ck's sake, i got $40 k invested, what's another $10 or 15 K ??..... even though you know full well that throwing more money into the pit might not solve anything.....
6. utterly, totally broke.... wife preparing divorce papers, "i coulda had a new Cayman," etc....
7. throwing in the towel.... suffered yet another blow, or worse, BANG !! .... you were hoping to get a few thousand outa 'her' to pay for a room (see #6) but now you're broke and the car has become another scrap roller...
now the wall of shame on RL;
and the somber words that you've heard so many times before, despite that you always thought it would be the other guy;
"yeah, getting out.... got a kid on the way, bigger house, wifey want's a pool (for her new bf LOL), lots of other plans now,"
—all included in your final post on the Turbo forum....
of course, you'll be back from time to time, making an appearance here and there..... maybe offer a bit of keen advice to the newbies and others (at various stages of their own 944T cataclysms), talking about the good times, broken knuckles and how fast the cars are once all the go-fast parts are in and tuning is all squared away....
but,
to be fair, there are similar stories with many Porsche's.
and a few success stories with the 4 cylinder platform *(video).
the 911 guys....
i'm not a fan of the bugwagon cars.
and some of their owners; if they're not jerks, bore me to tears.
*(or maybe, just sat) ?
a very fast 944T....

iceman...next time i drive to norcal, i'd be willing to give thunderhill a shot. never been there before, but my car does have a steering wheel and a gas pedal.
and there is a holiday inn express down the street from the track.

Why no LS 944's? We still have that old torque tube and torsion bar technology? Besides, my old 2.5 had as much power as my V8 will.. I just got a LS to make engine repairs 1/2 as cheap. NOT for more power.

Here we go again.......the 1/2 engine guys with old school torsion bar suspension and mac struts crying about how fast their boosted whips are.....once again I will offer a stern whipping to any 944-951 that bares its face in anger at Thunderhill.......open invitation (not LS engines versions of course), in my 33 year old 4.5L 16V 928.....
Reading this thread struck me that you guys sound even more thin skinned than some of us 1/2 engine guys lol...you should just ignore the rear engine snobs. Enjoy your cars for what they are and if they want to advertise their ignorance just let them go for it. Having been a passenger in a few GT3s and GT2s on the track, they are a fantastic car in my opinion. Still, if I was into 928s I'm sure that I'd be wanting to show those guys up as well. Shut them up with a view of your dust!
