I did the Porsche museum tour in 2010. When you get to each car you punch in the car display number. When you get to the midnight blue 928GTS the announcer states "Perhaps the finest car Porsche has ever produced." So even the factory acknowledges its greatness!

With all due respect, Dan, I beg to differ.
I have been a fan of both for many years, and 914s as well (74 2.0SE was my first).
I love my 911 and my GT for the same reasons, how fun they are to drive and rewarding to own.
It all comes down to the person... it's got nothin' to do with the car.

I just watched this video 5-6 times back to back....(as a matter of fact my laptop speakers are now blown because of this video) I've driven 993, 996 & 997.... there is not a privately owned, non factory backed Porsche on the track that will take this car. As a matter of fact.... a number of privately owned (doh) and factory backed (double doh) that were passed and decimated by this car... Mark Anderson deserves a foot note in Porsche histoy with his efforts and accomplishments.
Enough said.

...........
Two days later I made a run to a Home Depot about 10 miles away. I was walking back to the car when I noticed a woman circling the car while her husband was loading their pickup (there was an empty space between our vehicles). I had two 10' pieces of PVC, so I opened the hatch to put them in and commented "funny looking truck, isn't it!". She said "I've never seen a Porsche like this before - is it new". Same review of age and mileage. After a few minutes of conversation, including that she had owned one of the original 912's a long time ago, I was getting in the car to leave and she said "That car is every bit as beautiful as an Aston Martin, and that's my favorite car". After thanking her for the compliment, I said "The Aston is also one of my favorites, but I'll never be able to afford one". She laughed and said good bye as she was getting in the pickup........................

When I was interviewing down in Charlotte, NC, the owner of the company had a Cayenne Turbo, 2006, a 2009 911 Turbo Cab and a Panamera Turbo 4. I mentioned I had owned a 928 and was looking for another. His eyes lit up and he said, man they are such beautiful cars. Had nothing but appreciation for the marque and the 928.

I would not let it bother me. I have met several 911 owners...some "odd" and some "cool". Just like 928 owners...some "odd" some "cool".
What I have noticed is usually the "odd" ones drive a car that they think impresses others...and yet know very little technically about what they own.
