What strikes me the most about the 928 and 968 is how few of them are on the road in California. Did they simply not sell any here? If you told me they were still making them in the '90's I'd call you a liar to your face. haven't seen one that wasn't it total shambles that looked any newer than an early 80's variant. I've seen more in the euro section at Pick-a-Part than on the road. .....yet, there are a half dozen 911's in the two blocks between my house and my mother's.

As far as the 968, they only imported about 4,000 total cars from 1992 to early 95, compared to how many freakin 911s that have made it to our shores since 1963 eh?? Or even from 92-95? And although the 928 was made from '78-95, I'm pretty sure that the total # of units sold of 61k was much less than the 911 during that time frame.

Cost came into play with the affordability of the buyers when you look at the 928 vs a same model yr 911. We already know that a 928 was $20k more than a 911. Kinda like when the Boxster & 911 were it & they sold 3-4 Boxsters to one 911. You saw lots more Boxsters on the road than 911s. So yeah, no duh, ya might see a few more 911s on the road than a 928 or 968, anywhere in the US of A. Kinda makes a 911 more of just an every day car to me. I like having a car that is not at every stop light. Think its about time for you to go back under your bridge!

does this mean if you at one time owned one you are a D*&*# ? Or once you get a 928 no longer so (hoping the latter is the correct answer so I am not one for life having had a 996 cabriolet!)

I have a very nice example of a 928, however I must admit it only gets out 1-2 times a month at best. I'd have a better chance of having to evacuate from a Tsunami warning than seeing another 928 in my area. I do see a 968 everyday it's owned by a longtime Porsche mechanic who I pass on the freeway (5 days a week) as I go south and him north. Funny thing about the Porsche mechanic he hates working on 928's, however he has work on mine for many years and each time I bring it in he always pays compliments on the car.

I like having a 968 for the rarity. I have the 6 speed coupe of which only about 1200 were ever sold here and I am sure a good part of those have been scrapped. For me owning watercooled Porsches is getting the most bang for the buck. The 911's are great cars but they are just not a great value for performance to cost ratio when put up against the 928. No disrespect to anyone that owns one, they just have a great following that keeps the used prices up.

Mine is my DD here in the Glendale area. Pop on by sometime and we can compare notes.

I've owned 911's and just this one 928. The '76 SC was the only one purchased new. I spent more time and money on any one of the various 911's keeping them happy vs. the time and money in the 928. They are all wonderful cars, but the 928 is different. Much more civilized for trips longer than a couple hours. Yes, I sometimes think that the challenge of getting the tenth tenth out of the 911's was part of the cult charm. The 928 seems almost dull after that, until you look at how much asphalt is passing under the tires. If you like getting your heart racing as you approach your limit in your car, you've made the perfect choice, no argument. My days of needing that adrenaline rush at 80% are gone. I no longer need to feel like I'm going fast when I'm going fast.
