Not sure why it changed suddenly and dramatically.
Check that the timing belt hasn't jumped. Short of turning the distributor, this is the only place where timing can "adjust" itself.

Thanks Doc, short of some unimaginable mechanical voodo in the distributor, I suspected a TB problem.

Few month back I painted my center caps. I always liked to full color over the silver and black. Made a quick tutorial for anyone else wanting to do the same. While I am sure I could have made the paint of a better quality, I used model paint and cleared it.

Got it a sibling.
Blue family member gets a black sibling.....
Unbeknownst to dad until yesterday, new black child is the # 2 production 5-spd GTS for the usa 🇺🇸 market.... quite a little gem, that new little bugger

A bit dated. ive been...busy since saturday .

Well, this is how my weekend went.
Sat am helped steam clean a new 928 project(not mine) helped diagnose trailer brakes and bearing issues, then dropped my rear cradle to swap in a larger rear swaybar.
Then I had a stroke.
Life's short folks, no more 928 for a while..

Are you replacing all the rod bearings or just inspecting..?

Adding anything from Greg's arsenal - or just going back together stock?

Alan-

Not sure, honestly- Heinrich posted this for sale a few weeks back and I couldn't resist since he's only 80 miles away. Hadn't had a chance to poke through it but it's in great shape.

So sorry to hear that. I hope your doctors pinpointed the cause of the stroke and that it isn't life threatening. Get well soon

On my 81 I ordered some Porsche factory tools to make the job easier when rebuilding the engine.

I could have improvised and made my own like others but I kind of want to collect these tools and do the job right the first time as I will do the same to my 89 after I finish my 81.

Plus I can loan out the tools afterwords and help other owners in need.

Having refitted the steering wheel after doing a little RnR, I discovered a scraping noise each time the wheel was turned, took wheel back off and discovered the brass horn contact was out of place and causing the noise, put it back to where it should be and the noise has gone, however I'm not happy with the shape the brass contact is in, I think a piece has snapped off at some time although the horn functions as normal.
Is this contact piece re-newable, and does anyone have a part number please ?
