Did some (preventive) maintenance this afternoon: replace all parts from fuel filter to fuel pump (I am getting close to 100K miles, and this way I have a spare used fuel pump ).
New part being: fuel filter (928 110 253 06), hard fuel line from fuel filter to fuel pump (928 356 063 11), cap nut M12 * 15,5 mm (928 110 475 04), 2 * copper washer 12 x 16mm (900 123 005 20), fuel pump 1987-1995 (928 608 104 03).
According to WSM chapter 20-8, both the fuel pump check valve seal and the cap nut should be torqued to 20 Nm (both are 19mm sized). I check upon the factory provided fuel pump check valve seal, and it was torqued less than 15 Nm - so I re-torqued that and the cap nut to 20 Nm. The hard fuel line I torqued to 15 Nm (17 mm sized), I could not find a value in the WSM for it.
Afterwards went for a 30 mile drive, as it was still +5 Celicus today in Helsinki - might be the last time before it goes on winter sleep.

Today I put in V4.0 of Porkens chips and a few minor maintenance items. Fixed the alarm system now so it arms but don't ask me how!
The car is amasing with the new chips. The improvement in performance is the same as putting in V3.6 plus x pipe and fast flow cats. It also makes a louder growl or I am just pressing harder on the fun pedal.
Thanks Ken you have made the S3 a great car with all your improvments.

I started a 5:00am this morning. Installed the two rear wheel bearings without a special tool, swapped springs to new shocks and installed. Prepped and paintied 2 rear (new) rotors and installed new pads. Swapped two front springs to new shocks but have yet to install.
I then moved inside and removed passenger rear quarter panel and starting to repair leather, (needs to be streched) then re-attached. These were original shocks I believe since there was cosmoline on them,(red Boges). I installed black boges hoping for a old man ride!

Time to go in and brush the fingers.

Thomas thats a lot of work, glad your upgrading things.

DAVE, ^^^^^this is pretty easy if you have 2 Mapp gas torches to heat the hub carrier and an impact airhammer gun to drive the bearing out of its housing ,
have the new bearing sitting in the freezer for 2 hours prior to removal of the old part,
and have cleaning rags handy so to clean out the bore then reheat thje carrier ,then the new bearing will slide into the carrier

Stan,

I used my threaded rods from the spring compressors for removing and the rods again with the old bearings for installation plus a thrust bearing and iron coupler that fit well.

I am having some fun with the car as I bought a daily driver so I can do the bigger projects now.

Today, actually yesterday, I put some stuff back ON the car! What a happy day after taking stuff off, cleaning, refinishing, rebuilding, replacing.....for almost 2years.

Oil pan back on with 928 MS stud kit, engine mount bar back on (stripped and painted), new engine shocks from 928's R Us , rebuilt lower A-arms from 928 Int, upgrade complete to new steel lower ball joints with stuff from Parts Heaven, cleaned heat shields, cleaned rubber mounts (appear to be in OK shape), replanted most hardware with home plating kit from Caswell.

Now, to take out the torque tube and replace those bearings....

Snow melted from last week and roads clear, so told my wife I would run bunch of errands (took the 91 GT). First took the back roads and decided to push it now that I have about 1500 miles on it since getting it in August (closing in on 26K miles) and yes the PSD works as I had it engage on some hard curves.

Then ran the errands taking the highway and letting the gears wind out and taking the LONG way. Car ran beautifully and fast (must be because it's red?)

Hopefully , the snow will hold off and we can get some more driving time before the real winter gets here in New England.
