Not much today.
My R door speakers would go in and out over bumps. Sounded like a loose connection. Pulled the door panel and they were OK. Checked the wires by the door 'stress point' and they were OK. Checked all wiring by amp that sits hidden on the passenger footwell shelf - all good.
Found that I had driven a screw through the coaxial line that feeds the amp from the radio unit. This was in proximity to the front screw that holds the center console carpet panel in.
Changed out cable, and all is well.

Pulled the exhaust and opened the flex plate cover to have a look at the rear main and both pinch bolts after my big trans/TT/TQ/rear suspension refresh at the start of summer. All is A-OK. Adjusted trans modulating pressure up 2psi to be within spec. Noticeably better shifting with the right pressures. Snugged up the oil pan bolts while I was under there.

Repaired the driver side window motor yesterday and re-glued the door panel carpet. Unfortunately I only got a few cycles of the window motor before it started flaking out again. New one is on order.

EEEK!!!

I broke my harness 14 pin connecter trying to loosen it to cover some exposed wires. Carl you are getting a call tomorrow. Can't believe it fell apart in as many pieces as it did.

People check your wires!

Planned on working on the throttle body and ended up starting a top-end refresh. Oh well. It needed to be done.

wore out the rear rubber on the GTS and as the season is into fall I swapped the CIII wheels and tyres from the S4 onto the GTS and went for a ride.

What a diff the new soft rubber makes the the ride and handling Michelin Supersports

Saturday, Sean and I changed the Gates T/B, Laso W/P, PK Tensioner, new belts & hoses, Bosch spark plugs, anti-freeze and Mobil 1 oil service. Sunday I detailed the interior and ordered the 4" Project Nine door speakers from Hans. This is a great daily driver!

New cap and rotor. Could be just wishful thinking, but the car is running "smoother" somehow. Distributor cap was mess, had a crack in the inside.

Voltage meter is steady as a rock, never been like that before.

Minor stuff today.
First, discovered an apparent loose connection feed to the R door speakers. Found a damaged wire behind the panel from the crossover unit. Also found a center console screw had once damaged a coaxial line between the radio head and the amplifier. Took care of both.
Also repaired a new, and less than 'springy' return of the drivers seatbelt. Found the cause to be the screw I replaced that holds in the seatbelt rosette was to high to allow the roller to swing toward the rear. I used a round head screw with a small washer. I replaced with a flathead screw with no washer and it's back to original form.

The joy of super simple and satisfying changes: wipers updated to 21st century (Bosch aero twin 20" AR20U, back will become 24" AR24U once I have transferred the pin from the old blade):

As part of the Sunroof refurb and repair I had to disassemble the center console to replace the sun roof and the drivers side window(while in there) switches. The panels were both in multiple pieces held together by carpeting. Time for new panels. I new this day was coming.

I picked up some corrugated plastic at Home Despot for $8 and marked up templates from taped together old pieces.

Using a sharpie I marked up the plastic and made the cuts with scissors.

Did a massive spot removal and shampoo on the carpeting after I peeled it off the broken up cardboard.

Then I glued the carpet onto the new plastic.

Almost as good as new for $8 of plastic + $23 of spray adhesive(lots left over).

Finally cleaned up and painted the new 928 front wheels and the powdercoat-that-I-wasn't-happy-with back wheels. Most importantly, with the 928 wheels up front where they belong, I should be able to actually drive it again without worrying I'll screw up my tires everytime I hit a bump!
