What gear are the runs being made in?
3rd in the autos...4th/5th in the 5spds?
Also, what is the basic comparison between the typical Dynojet and the Dyno that Tom uses...is the DynoJet generally higher a bit...lower...the same?
I think you all did before and after runs?? Any posts of before and after overlayed or side by side? The overall gain on the same dyno would be a good comparison point.
cool stuff all this power!

Tony:
The two sheets posted by me and Jim are before and after on Tom's Dynapac. Mine were 3rd gear (AT). In Jim's case the before run was 5th gear while after was 3rd, and the sheet is so marked. They did an after run in 5th as Marc mentioned it earlier - I think it was 432 compared to the 275 in 5th before the SC.
I don't know if Dynojets read higher or lower. My 262 sounds about right. George Suennens 90 S4 was 250 on Tom's dyno before the Murph kit, 437 after, so I wouldn't say it reads high.
Still waiting to see Derek's and Seth's results.

Tony,
I had dynoed my car on a dynojet a few months before and got 260 rwhp. Two years
before on the same dyno I had a peak of 263. All the before s/c runs on Tom's dynapac
have peaked around 250 rwhp.

Marc T has seen the Dynapac consistently be 5% less than the Dynajet.
Last time I dynoed I was at 301 rwhp. Since that time I installed the 2 1/2" exhaust, new plugs, wires and indexed the cams so I was expecting around 315rwhp, as was Louis. Sat morning I dynoed in 5th @ 272. Seth in his 89GT dynoed @ 260 as I recall, again in 5th. We were both stunned.
Was dynoing in 5th the problem?

Jim:
Yes. Look at your two after runs, one in 5th and the other in 3rd. As Marc said earlier:
"It went from 275 to 432 for an apples to apples comparasion ... WOW. Once we went to 3rd gear, it pulled a high of 462 ish. with less than 7 lbs of boost."
That's 30 HP less 5th vs. 3rd. You want to be close to 1:1 gear ratio. I would think 5th gear would result in slower acceleration of the dyno and a lower HP calculation.

I dyno'd my car on a dynojet the day before and got 337rwhp. First run I did on the dynopak was 337rwhp exactly, but I made a very small modification to my intake to allow more flow into the SC... so, they're probably very close.

Awesome results guys!
Not to hijack, but.......Why is doing a dyno in 4th or 5th bad/incorrect? I have to get mine done in about 2 weeks, and have dyno'd as a baseline in 4th. I always was under the impression that being as close to 1:1 gearing is preferred. With our cars 4th in the auto cars will spin the dyno too fast, and 5th in the S4's as well. So, most dyno's in the past have been in 4th for 5spds, and 3rd for auto's. With using a lower gear, you basically get a higher number than using 4th/5th. Which is more accurate?
I plan on using 4th, since that is what my baseline was done in, but may do one pull in 3rd just to see the difference. Any thoughts?

Mike,
I am confused whose car walked away from your car... was that my car?
I'm just lost in the proverbal sauce.
Speaking of which has anyone seen a Silver GTS supercharged... missing since last Tuesday.
Last seen somewhere in California...
Reward if found.

I do not know the technical reasoning behind it, but from everything I have read, the difference between 3rd/4th/5th gear dynoing isn't very large. There was an ongoing thread on a BMW enthusiast board and several people dyno'd their cars in different gears and saw maybe a 1% change. I know one reason is that its a little safer to spin the dyno slower (instead of at 150mph+).
