headers seem to be the only really annoying part with these builds. Either pay the outrageous $800 or so RH wants or modify an existing driver's side header to somehow fit in there- which looks awful and anyone can tell you it isn't the greatest design from a performance aspect.

You would think headers would be the easiest part?

All you need is a mig welder, band saw, and your standard bend assortment kit. Granted it's time consuming but it's pretty simple to make headers for just about anything. I plan on doing mine this way when the time comes.

I would say this is a moderate build... I'm not going overboard with anything. But, I do have some extras that wouldn't really be necessary for a budget build:
- mild cam, valve springs, chromoly push rods, 28 lb injectors, ported TB, MAF, high flow oil pump, ls2 timing chain, ls6 intake, ls6 valley pan... all added about $1500
- big reds, kokeln adapters, and 968 spindles and hubs... added about $1200

So, I would say a budget build could be done for under $7k, and after selling a good running 951 engine, it would net be less than $5k.
I assume you're talking parts alone, no labor (DIY)?

Also, I have to believe that pricing depends on whether you are keeping power steering, power brakes and air conditioning.

I don't think Renegade makes their own headers. Does anyone know who makes them for Renegade? I don't see why we can't order direct from whoever makes them.

I know they outsourced the LT headers. There were reports of them cracking where Renegade removed the manufacturers logo. The also sourced oil pans. That is what makes me think someone else makes the headers.

They don't make headers in house or much of any thing else. They have a fab guy who makes them to order. Having made the first set that their jig is made from I know what it cost to make a set.

LS1 Flanges 1/4" $65.00
1-3/4" 16ga. tight radius madrel U bends 9pcs $135.00
3" Merge collectors $25.00
2- 3" V-band clamps $100.00
Ceramic coating $155.00
Freight on components $25.00
Total parts $490.00
Labor time to construct/weld 12hrs @ $40.00 per hour (I would not build a set for $40.00 per hour anymore). $480.00
Total for set $970.00

Renegade headers do not come with V-band clamps unless you ask and they will add $250.00 for that option.

See why they cost so much?

That adds up quick. I am going to do the modified leading tube method in the manual. That may be less than ideal but it is a quarter of the price.

ok so the other night i welded up the driver's side motor mount for the V8, and tonite Alan stopped by while i was working on the passenger side. Got them all welded up and started looking at options for relocating the throttle body for room. Now if i can just talk Alan into steel instead of aluminum.

Dan, are you doing cable throttle or E-throttle? I was able to flip my E-throttle body 180 deg. and it did free up quite a bit of room. I also though about relocating it, I actually really liked the idea of running the intake reversed, with the intake filter in the cowl, but you would lose the blower motor for the interior, and im not ready to give up heat.

+1 Marky.Reversing the intake would be a great option if you don't mind ripping out the blower. I ripped out the A.C. but I have to have heat on these frozen streets too. Global warming my ***. Nice uprights, what wall thickness did you use there?
