Sorry if it was mentioned already, but I didn't see it- what type/where did you get the oil pan? Would that oil pan work on the 5.3 truck engine? Can't wait to see how this takes shape.

I wonder if Champ would build them (oil pans) again?
The Moroso 20140 looks similar, can be modified the same, but costs more initially. Shops around here get paid very well for a quality mod-job...
Alan,
You are now the proud owner of a German Hot Rod.
Albeit, one that sticks to the asphalt.
Peace be with you, young man...
Dan,
I thought you had some "spray" for that?

I talked to the owner at Champ (John, I think) and he said he had a few more of the 944 LS pans left (that was a couple months ago). Charged me a very reasonable price (less than $300 shipped). He cut ties with RH because he didn't like how they conduct business. I don't know if he'd be interested in continuing to sell those modified pans, but a couple nice things about them is they are plated after welding and they appear to have some very nice oil control features inside. As far as leaking near the inlet/outlet tubes, I see they added an extra support for the flange there, so maybe that addresses any early problems they had? I guess I will find out.

Just curious what head/cam?
Most of my friends are making around 405-420 WHP with Cam + bolton cars. Usually with heads they are in the 450-480whp range.
So obviously hoping for 400+ crank means it must be a pretty mild setup.

I just ordered a set of Street & Performance mid-length hot rod headers, which are intended for 55-57 Chevy LS swap. The passenger side will work unmodified. Driver side will require a couple of tubes to be modified to clear the steering shaft and rack. (http://www.hotrodlane.cc/09%20catalog/sp2010/index.html, page 103, items F&G).

Cam is a Howard’s 225/229 .580/.585 114lsa 110icl. Whatever that means. Also putting in Comp beehive valve springs, chromoly 7.400 push rods, a Melling high flow oil pump, and LS2 timing chain (much stronger).
It is a mild cam, just because I plan to do a good bit of street driving, and also because I am doing this swap as much for reliability as HP. I think 400-ish will be plenty for now.

225/229 is Duration, .580/5.85 is lift and 114 is Lobe Seperation Angle.

My total cost for the swap in this thread is looking like it will be in the neighborhood of $9k. Subtract out the engine and brake parts I've sold, about $2500, and grand total should be about $6500.
I would say this is a moderate build... I'm not going overboard with anything. But, I do have some extras that wouldn't really be necessary for a budget build:
- mild cam, valve springs, chromoly push rods, 28 lb injectors, ported TB, MAF, high flow oil pump, ls2 timing chain, ls6 intake, ls6 valley pan... all added about $1500
- big reds, kokeln adapters, and 968 spindles and hubs... added about $1200
So, I would say a budget build could be done for under $7k, and after selling a good running 951 engine, it would net be less than $5k.
