Nice reply Dan! If he ever drove a LS1 modded car he would probably have a different opinion of the the conversion just ask any who has done it, I have yet to hear anyone say they regretted it.

what an inept fool. try reading the thread and then attempt something that even comes close in terms of technical skill that results in being able to put down that much usable power in the mid~upper rpm range resulting in not only something that is a pleasure to drive, but just one more of these cars that will keep going long into the future..... of course just a little basic automotive knowledge regarding how clever, functional and ergonomic GM's v8 designs are today, could also have be rendered useful in your case.. i guess you could do better with a Porsche powerplant out of a 928 or even a flat six... well done.

Like I said before, the trans box is stamped Audi-VW, not to mention other Audi, ZF, Bosch items and now all the faux re-branded Chinese replacement parts (water pump comes to mind) that are being pawned to the "Purists" here. So if you are a Porsche purist, you need to alleviate your conscience and sell your 944...or donate it to swap science.

Nice swap! Very complete, looks 'factory' if you know what I mean.
Someone on page 2 or 3 mentioned the truck engines as a cheap alternative - there was an alloy version of the SUV engine made as well, putting out 295hp?
Anyway... if 300hp was enough for someone on a low-ish budget, do you think the truck or SUV exhaust manifolds would work? Looks like there is clearance where you put those nice headers, and even though they wouldn`t flow as well as headers, following them with large diameter main pipes would help some.

there are literally thousands of good rebuildable and rebuilt short blocks in Texas..... why? Texas DPS ran the cars on the interstate for many years. not to mention all the civilian production scrap metal. by comparison, the alloy truck motors are a good deal harder to come by.
and no, you have to run at least short-tubes. 1 pipe has to be fabbed. don't know off the top of my head what part vendors/part #s to order, but Robert M. (xschop) can let you know....
now; exhauast 101; big pipes behind a bottleneck will actually, reduce your power even further, (not the other way around)... short tube headers are good for about 15~20 hp... long tubes, probably 10 more. y-pipe into single 3.0 inch pipe for ls1/ will be good for about 425 hp, and 3.25 inch pipe is optimal for ls2, 3 /500 hp etc.
