dmjames - That is exactly what I encountered too. If this is of any help I put some "teeth" in the metal shaft by gripping the shaft where the metal gear sits with a new vice-grip pliers that had new sharp teeth in the jaws. I adjusted the vice-grip pliers as tight as possible on the shaft and when the pliers are removed the shaft now had compression marks and higher ridges because of the vice-grip teeth. It then took quite a bit of force to slide the metal gear back in place. I'm hopeful that because of the new teeth on the shaft the gear will not slip anymore.

Will definitely keep that in mind as one last thing to try if this fix doesn't hold up! Thanks for the tip!

Replaced the upper strut mounts. Old ones were shot and the bearings were really rough, suspect original.

Hah I just did mine again, too. I don't know what the normal, expected service life is for the stock strut bearings but I suspect it's not much beyond 30-40k miles.

I wound up ditching the stockers for camber plates this time around.

It would take a while to start, run rough for 15 seconds, then run perfect. Someone suggested removing the vacuum line from the damper and sure enough I found it leaking fuel. Basically raw fuel was being dumped directly back in the intake! Anyway easy check if your in doubt.

I took the intake off my 944 turbo to replace all the vacuum lines. Now the darn thing won't start. And I got fuel and spark?

I feel like I've checked everything. I guess I'll do some searching on Rennlist.

Began my road trip yesterday; made it to Chesapeake, VA this evening via stopping by my dad in North Jersey.
So far: Drove 713 miles, purchased 22 gallons of fuel (still have just under 1/2 tank) so I'm averaging 32.4 MPG!!

On my 944 (not sure if relevant on 951) I had a hard start problem and traced it down to the air intake boot. Under the boot are two vacuum lines that need to be connected. I had failed to connect the second one, hope this helps.

Yesterday, reinstalled radiator replacing lower hose and all hose clamps. While in the driveway last week, had steering wheel shudder when turning. The lower right support for the radiator had come loose and the lower hose was rubbing against the power steering pump.

The new hose clamps are OEM, German made. Notice the difference in width. OEM on right.
