I would have mine all back together and back on the ground from the timing belt / water pump service , but I can`t get the crank bolt broke loose to remove the back half of the timing cover . So looks like I will be ordering a flywheel lock and wait for that to get here

To be honest with you i didnt expect them to look half as good as they do. So i'm also impressed. It was my first time using a spray gun as well and i found it easy to use so for the future i'll give up painting things with a spray can

I finally got the new header sealed correctly... as it turns out, the flange was fine; there was nothing wrong with the header. The leak was due to one of the sealing rings falling out of position and getting caught, so a new set of sealing rings (good thing I ordered spares!) and a dab of high-temp copper RTV to hold them in place put everything right.

I haven't had a chance to get her out on the road for a test yet, as the RTV needs 24 hours to set up fully. Hoping the sound under load is nice, although I did build the exhaust to be easily disassembled if I have to swap some components to change the tone.

In the meantime, I swapped new CV axles in, hoping to cure the ticking sound I was beginning to hear from the right side.

After this, I need a couple of weekends to recharge before I will be up to tackling the torsion bar swap, but then once that's done it's time to get the interior refurbished! At least that won't be quite as dirty of a job.

On the engine side of the flywheel there are a few holes drilled...

At least one of them is in the right place to insert an 8mm bolt, which will catch on the oil pan tab securely enough to break the crank bolt loose.

It also works for tightening, on the other side.

Just remember to remove the bolt after everything is finished, or you'll wonder why the car won't crank over... Lol btdt.

Thanks. That was my car when I lived in Seattle. Pictures about 30 years old! Took me a long time to get back into a S2.

Dear Flyboy: It could be that the rear seal in the water pump opening isn't pushed on far enough. That would make the t-stat ride high/forward and not allow the snap ring to go into place. When I did mine, I had to add an additional spacer so the t-stat wouldn't rattle around. Hope this helps some. good luck!

Changed my water pump, t-stat, belts/rollers & thermofan switch. Everything is great EXCEPT THE STUPID THERMOSTAT! So frustrated right now. It's not opening.
Between thermofan switches and this thermostat, it seems Wahler's quality has taken a nose dive.

Got the chance to drive the car yesterday... and the new exhaust sounds like trash.

The smaller muffler I used just wasn't up to the job and it's now much too loud, with that obnoxious metallic farting sound that doesn't really suit a Porsche. I"ve ordered a new, larger muffler and will be installing it as soon as it arrives. In the meantime, I have to live with the shame of driving my Fast and Furious 944 for a few days.
