So after delaying a day initially and getting nothing done today because of work, rear sway bar, drop links, dampers and trailing arm are off as of yesterday. Pretty exciting. Car has been a pleasure to work on so far. Discovering I now have to lift up the car at different jack points (farthest rear ones by the diffuser) to now remove the spring plate to remove the torsion bars etc etc.. Guessing the 'fun' part of the job is coming! Will be worth it in the end though. Also found out I need a new axle boot for the differential. Does anybody know if they're the same as cars not equipped with the M220 unit?
I got my new tires yesterday, Yokahoma S Drives, very nice, much as I was tempted to get them mounted and balanced I have decided it is time to begin with the bodywork and paint prep, so I moved it to the shop area of the garage. Nearly every panel has small to medium dents and dings, the front panel and hood being the worst (anybody in the Midwest have any cheap parts they want to sell?) but there is no rust. I bought the car to have fun with, not sweat over, so the plan is to pound things out as best I can, smooth it over with putty, couple coats of primer filler, sand, maybe a coat or two more and more sanding, and spray it, don't want to miss too much of driving season.
I think I successfully plugged the leak in the old leaky left rear tire so I can roll it around without airing it up every couple of days, time will tell....
It looks like I did fix the leaky left rear tire, I also got a good used intake boot to replace the clogged up but functional one I had, and picked up a decent hood and passenger window. Unfortunately, we could get the hood in the car, everything does not always fit in the Fit. So I will have to go back and get it.
Installed 66mm wheel studs on the rear (early offset), so I can get spacer and wheel on. Got one side done, now have to put the e-brake bits back together. Other side should go faster now that I know what I'm doing (supposedly). Was very tempted to put the wheel on just to see how it looks, but that would lead to a test drive to check for rubbing, and I can see myself deciding that an e-brake on just one wheel is ok....
Also messed about with removing the stock wing mirror and door handle so I can install 968 bits. Not much progress. Took off interior panel, and removed anti Jimmy shield and still can't see what's what. About to pull the window channel....

nice color for the wheels...works great with the white of the car.
Patched a tear in the sunroof seal using some high quality textile tape.
For a temporary fix it looks damn good.
And did the templates for the foglight blanks/covers i'm building.
C-C-C-COMBO - Pressure testing the coolant system while tensioning timing belt.
I went up to 12psi and discovered a very slow leak/seepage on the drivers side rad end at plastic-metal interface (picture not ideal). When I dropped it down to 10psi the leak essentially stopped.
System maintained pressure for about 3 hours straight - Do I need to worry about the radiator? Do the clearances on a hot radiator tighten up?
Do these things fail catastrophically (ie, plastic end blowing off), or should I just expect the leaking to slowly increase over time?
Did you have them painted or powder coated. More detailed info would be greatly appreciated.
Vintage metallic gold plastidip. They're powder coated black underneath. I wanted to see how they'd look gold and fell in love. Definitely will get them powder coated when I can. Dip was $8/can from dipyourcar.com and it takes about 3-4 cans total to give all four wheels good coats.
Mostly finished painting the Intake & cam tower. Plus some assorted random other parts.
Got all 4 corners up on jack stands finally and removed all 4 wheels, verified PO used the wrong type lug nuts, so on a search for used locks, since mine are missing. (He did give me the stock lugs. And the lock key, just no locks) Also discovered the front brake pad wear sensors were ruined by someone not changing them after the last brake job. And they let it go for a LONG TIME, the sensors are ate up. So going to need to replace those.
