Moved out of my old apartment and drove across TX in it. No problems at all except when I went out to mess with it an hour after shutdown, the fans were still running. That's the 3rd fan switch in 2 years... holy ****, how hard is it to get a good replacement? Ordered Wahler brand from Pelican every time.
I think I'm going to go to a manual switch until I get standalone running - at which point I can use the coolant temp signal to activate a switching relay right at 75 deg.C

i bought whatever the cheap brand of fan switch is probably 10 years ago and haven't had a problem with it.

It runs right on the first hash mark, at most it's a needle width higher in hot traffic. I think the problem is my fan wiring - I didn't do the AC delete, but the wiring is modified to run both fans effectively as one (as though the AC is always on) and maybe it's pumping more current through the switch that it's designed to handle.

Spent three hours filled with frustration... Changed the thermostat ... The snap ring holding it, is a b**** to get out. Fair warning... Don't buy a thermostat from Advance or Autozone. They say it will fit. And it does, but it doesn't flow as well as the Wahler (OEM) or open as fast.
The Aftermarket thermostat was causing my 944 to run at the upper white line and crossing it a bit.
The 944 cools just like it did 29 years ago !

Just wanted to make sure you had these in your arsenal:
They ended my snap ring nightmares :-)

you could copy what i did for my monster volvo fan, run a new power wire from the battery to a relay to the fan...then use the porsche fan plug to trigger that new relay...so now all the original fan wiring has maybe 150mA to deal with and all the power is through the new wire.
my volvo fan draws upwards of 35 amps when running so i needed bigger wires

the switch *should* have almost no current running through it as it just triggers a relay.

I take it that the fatter wire solution makes many things better.
It seems to be the fatter wire solution is also in the "brighter headlight" and "car stereo power" mods as well.
I used this 10 gauge wire for my headlight upgrade as it was rated highly for its strand count:

the issue with the headlights is that the factory wiring runs the power through the headlight switch which is not only a long length of wire, they are also very small
so running a fatter cable off the back of the alternator and using the regular wiring just to switch the relay means less power loss = brighter lights...

Good to know, thanks. In that case I'm just on a streak of bad luck getting a part that lasts more than a couple months.

Good info on relay and direct power to boost headlights! I ordered a couple of socketed relays and holders, today.
Ended up winning an Ebay auction for a 944 Max Power EPROM for 24-pin DMEs. We'll see what that does.
Ordered a crap ton of bodges and fixes, including driver's door rubber trim weather seal, Bosch distributor, rotor and plug wires, wiper blades all around, interior trim plugs, don't remember what else.
Also, replaced the brake booster check valve which disintegrated after 30 years. While in there, I pumped a few ounces of Seafoam into the vacuum line, and smoked the hell out of my neighborhood. Didn't seem to hurt anything, which is nice. Topped up coolant and replaced the rear view mirror, since it was bouncing all around and couldn't hold a usable position.

Browsed car-parts.com for used front struts, it's a budget build, finally found a 70k mile set for $50 each plus shipping. My new boot trim ring keeps popping off, any tips to keep it in place? Boot was a $20 Ebay find, maybe too thick? I bought this to fix and flip, but it's so much fun driving, tempting to keep for a while, and Porsche prices seem to keep going up.
