Smile oil pump

Jumped into cleaning up the oil pump..156+K of baked on oil..good thing I did this, will be replacing the oil pump sleeve and crank gear thrust washer, to eliminate any wear ridges and future problems. Pump was full of baked on crap, will beadblast outside and dunk in solvent for 2-3 days to loosen all the oil crap. Gears and casing seem to be within normal limits..green o-ring and crank seal will complete the job. YAY!

I did my first distributor cap, rotor, plug and wire changeout!

ANd I effed it up! Even after noting which cylinders went to which terminal, somehow I got it wrong. So, I was running on two cylinders whenever i tried to start and idle. Not cool.

Transposed One and Two and life got better.

Original 30 year old plug wires are finally gone.

This weekend, fuel pump and instrument LEDs.

just took it for a 70 mile trip to drop a 928 part off, and took some (phone quality) sound clips along the way.
i think it sounds pretty nice

Holy Crap Mike! You have one of those Protective Plates?
I didn't know they still existed.
I can't find one to save my life.

I'm trying to Stage Zero my NA. Looks like I will need the LR hose set. As I was getting into the rotor set screw, I noticed that the upper coolant hose was really soft. And, I think the thermostat wants to be changed. The car runs at the 2/3 mark often.

Today was LED bulb cleanup. Got the gauge trim and gauge pod out without pulling the steering wheel. Cleaned the light tube silvering and used heavy duty aluminum foil to resilver. Covered in electrical tape to protect. New LED bulbs mean I can actually see the gauges at night.

I did have to pop the steering wheel to get the instrument pod back in, however. So, I cleaned and re-greased the contact points.

Learned about the bear of a job getting the front side market bulbs out. Next time will be faster. LEDs into driving lights, license plate lights, overhead festoon, under hood light, HVAC *****, etc.

Since my LHD 931 has been registered and used in the UK its headlights have been swapped for LHD ones so for registration in RO, i had to replace the headlights with LHD units. Did that today.

Also sorted the "tacho not working with headlights on" - it had a bad connection earth.
Installed the speedo cable and tested it

The AOR is still not in. Several WYWIT projects got in the way.

Flaring the passenger side fender to match the drivers side. It sill needs some body work before paint.

I started fitting my GT Racing rear bumper.

I installed SRPracing pedals.

I installed the sub belt mounts for the rear seat harnesses.

I installed an 044 fuel pump.

I installed the only944 shifter arm and short shifter.

I started work on assembling clear lenses for the rear side markers.

Default Installing my rally lights

I have spent my Sunday morning installing these lights for night rallies
They are completely removable.
I have used the light surround to do the instalation.
They are led 27w and you can find them in ebay (39€).

I have used this relay

And this is the wiring diagram

And the result

Here you can see the switch

While cleaning the float assembly on my early model gas gauge, I dropped it and the gossamer wire came unsoldered and broke. Can't believe that I am such a KLUTZ. The float was all gummed up from sitting in the tank so long and was stuck to the guide wire and bottom of the assembly...DUH! Now have to get another one..DANG!

I replaced the old shifter (which had come apart on the highway 80 miles from home last weekend - zip ties and duct tape to the rescue!) with the unit from Only944.

The shift action is MUCH smoother and easier now. I should have done this a long time ago...

Curious about this too? Who needs the belts in the rear?

I have three boys. The oldest rides up front and the younger two are in the back seats. The cabs came with just lap belts. I want them to be secured better when they ride with me in the car. I've only mounted one shoulder belt for each side of the car but with the lap and sub belts, my boys should be held in pretty well.
