Drove my favorite 4 wheeler....mufflers & cats unknown...
Using its 150 +/- N/A HP to get up to no more than 70MPH...
Just a nice Sunday morning drive with the Cruise & AC on as I like the gas mileage...
Didn't slow down for curves..no way man cruise is set......
Admired how it pull G's without complaint when cornering!!
Anyhow ..........

This was for a trip up to go for another trip in my favorite 3 wheeler..
It has a 160HP N/A motor too, but it is a horizontally opposed, 4 cyl, air cooled, 1-BBL updraft carb model.
With NO Cats and NO mufflers...just straight pipes (with heat muffs).....
OK crossing lines in decorum of the water cooled vs. air cooled forums now?

Anyhow today due to heat, the performance was held to 165mph cruise.
Although I did come close to redline on a few pancake breakfast attendee encouraged strip zooms.
But was mild seeing +2.5g's pull ups & -0g's nose over according to the tele-tale needle on the G meeter.

Hey for a 3 wheeler it corners like heck too!!
Barf Bags are in the center console.

OK Rennlisters I was thinking that maybe I should turbo one of these.
Anyone here got any ideas???

David (name why???)

Ps. My real 944 work included a Scotch Brite Air filter over the blower screen to strain out chunks of FOD
....after seeing junk blowing allover I got the idea from a search on here..thanks !

Spencer, there are turbo Cessnas...and would you believe a Porsche powered Mooney (irrc)

edit: Yep, it was a Mooney..... Porsche PFM 3200 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porsche_PFM_3200

Default 2 steps forward 1 - back, painting wheels Arrghhh!!

Phone Dials 15x7 early offset...

Earlier this week I blasted the wheels & centers to get them ready to paint.
60 grit Alum oxide blast removed corrosion, clear, loose paint at dings and got
the original paint dull and rough. I palm vibro sanded all the curb rash away
from the rims too. (Top Photos)

I primed them early today with 2 part mix epoxy primer (middle photos).
Then later this afternoon scuffed that smooth with Scotchbrite (it was rock
hard already). Then went to town with Duplicolor spray can "graphite" wheel paint.

I went slow and light coats..rung around carefully each PD hole and lug hole.
I was careful not to go heavy and get any runs...but it sure was rough looking.

Well when I finally I started laying it on heavy but........ the over spray from
the hole lip - laps I did (I guess) said overspray clung to the walls and now I
got me a real rough mess there.......

The wheel centers flowed great and look fine. The portion of rim where it
meets sidewall flowed fine & smooth, even the lug center flat & 5 PD finger
hole flats look OK... but man oh man the transition up and the vertical wall
portion from the valve stem to outside wall of rim..it is like stalagmites of paint!.

Kinda bummed it was a no wind day but it dried very fast, even in the shade at
83 degrees. I now see the can said use in under 60% humidity ...right now
the RHumidity is 62% ... maybe that had something to do with it.... more work ahead..

Duplicolor can says final set in 7 days... so I guess I will wait a week and water
sand away get it smooth and either clear or install 1 or 2 of the cans of
Duplicolor Graphite I have left.

Put in the engine I just rebuilt. Had the speed and reference sensors backwards. After that was fixed it started right up .

I'll post some pics too. It's pretty.

On the '84 (DD): Swapped in a good used tach and new gas gauge light bulb

On the '86 (on the road two days since repairs): Had it aligned yesterday, but it was still feeling bad at speeds above 45; so I took the tires in for balancing. Turns out one has a massive flat-spot on it. The car was in an accident, the PO must have locked up that wheel. So... new set of tires on the way.
