I did my morning walkabout this morning and noticed that Rob was polishing the front of the S again.
"You polishing with superfine now?" I asked.
"No, I'm giving it another going over with the G3 (coarse). The paint is so hard now that I can still see a few marks so it needs another complete polish" replied Rob.

Expect to see even more shiny in a couple of days time......

Your projects are one of the few rare projects that I ask my wife to come to the computer to see. After "Kermit" she always is asking me what are they working on now? and when I say "come and see" she never hesitates and always comments how pretty.

As someone who always does their own work out of pride (and most times financial necessity), I feel you are only one of less than a handful of builders that "if" I had the money, I would gladly throw it your way! I hold out hope that one day I run across the right car, with the right provenance that would be worthy of your effort!

Thanks for your kind words TTS, they are much appreciated.

As well as this we do have other projects on the go at the moment that I am featuring on Rennlist. Over on the 993 section the Tangerine Dream 9m93 Speedster S #4 is coming along nicely, there will be a short follow up to the Viper green 993 trackday project soon and of course there is the non-sunroof 964 that I am playing with on the 964 forum.

Keep watching though, other projects in the shop are a 9m64RS "Retro", a 9m93GT2 Lightweight in fabrication and 9m93RS-R waiting in the wings for a paintwork slot. Unfortunately you will have to wait until the Retro is finished before I reveal any details due to the customer's preference for no publicity.

Polishing done, the car was run back into the booth to warm up the shell and apply the bitumen based sound deadening mats to the floor. The silver finish is abraded with scotchbrite to provide a key for the application of the satin black paint, the dash area and inner face of the doors having the same treatment.

More polishing under the lights of the booth to show all the micro scratches. Polishing fully cured lacquer which has dried over months will always give a superior finish, the downside is that it is very hard and you have to take your time to remove all the flatting marks.

The cutting compounds the guys use is G3; Ultra first, then fine, then finish. Each one has its own mop to use on the polishing head, yellow on the Ultra, soft on the fine and red for the finish as shown in front of the relevant compound.

RS lightweight carpets ( cos I have a new set )
Full Glass
Momo or 400mm standard refurbed wheel ( I have both )
RS lightweght door cards ( cheaper and lighter)
Absolutlely no radio
6" fuchs all round.
Carpet under front hood ? pity to hide that lovely metal ?
1972 Recaro Sports in leather taken by me from the car in 1990 and now fully refurbished in leather or
Pole Positions in cloth ?
I need heat, so SSIs or standard heat exchangers ?
Rear bumper will be GRP as I want to fit my stainless steel twin out muffler and dont want to cut up a new metal panel. The outlets are not in the centre panel but more to the side.

Advice please.

my 2 cents

Carpets - Full carpets but leave out seat backs.
Wheel - Get a 380mm Standard wheel (I bought one for my project , u can still use your original horn push.
Door cards - I prefer the original but as u say they are expensive.
Radio - Yep radio delete plate.
Wheels - 6" fuchs all round, could go with the option of running 7's on the rear but u will need to get Colin to roll the rear inner arches. Might be too late now shell is painted.
Carpet under front hood - dont have one in mine either.
Seats - 1972 Recaro Sports Seats - A must for any S!. They are not light, well the tilting frames weigh a ton but the seats themselves are light & super comfortable.
I need heat, so SSIs or standard heat exchangers - whats the price difference?

Carpets: I agree, RS carpet but leave out rear seats.
Wheel: Go with the momo... It's always a good idea!
Doors: RS lightweight is the only way to travel.
Wheels: I agree with the 6" fuchs.
I would leave off the front carpet... It just looks too good as is.
As far as seats... I hate to say it, but I'd probably go with the Recaro Profi. I've never really gelled too well with the 72 sport seats.

Those are my thoughts! But honestly... How could you ruin this car? It's just too awesome.
