Did I mention that some of the engine parts have come back from re-plating? Mark trial built the jigsaw puzzle pieces back onto the throttle bodies to get the intake system looking like it might work again.

Not obvious question: Does anyone know what the best cleaner is for the plastic intake runners? They are covered in a white residue that is resisting all attempts to remove it with solvents and we don't want to use abrasives to remove it. Any clues from someone who has done this?

Not done it, but saw the results and asked how it was done before to similar project.

Plastic media at a soft pressure through a small nozzle should do the trick. It should burnish the plastic to a like new finish.

Test in a small area first!

We've tried brake cleaner and many other solvents to no good, we think it needs abrasion removal, hence this is a really good idea, we will definitely give it a try. I had never thought of plastic media for the blast cabinet, we have only used glass in our detailer and grit in the large paint removal one, I'll let you know how it goes.

Dave, you will owe me for the media!

Chuck Millar suggested this

I'd use a good plastic cleaner/polish like Novus, or some of the auto plastic cleaner/polishes like Meguiars...
Then multiplicity applacations of 303 Protectant........ I use 303 on all the plastic in and on my '73

Hope this helps

Rob, our paint refinisher (amongst other things), came back from holiday today, Marc got him going straight away with polishing the 2.4S bodywork that Neil prepared before Christmas.

Meanwhile, on the clean engine bench in the next shop, Mark has the gearbox in pieces for a thorough inspection. Good news: all syncros, dog teeth & selector rings look to be in perfect shape so the box will just be going back together with nothing more than a new gasket set and a couple of stake nuts. Hurrah!

I should have mentioned that the gearing is stock which is the same for all 1972 915.00/01/02/03 gearboxes:
1st 11/35
2nd 18/33
3rd 23/29
4th 26/25
5th 29/22
CWP 7/31 with open differential.

Polished bodywork is shining up well. This is before cleaning the polishing compound from the panel and before the application of hand glaze:
