A few little details have been finished this week like the wing to scuttle seals and the door step trims. I also dropped a stock order at the OPC and as a result it Robin is now piecing together the suspension and the unique 1972 mid-tank oil system. Fortunately Porsche still have stock of the oil lines (which is more that can be said about the 1997 993 oil system ).

We are fitting 19mm front torsion bars with new adjustable springplates on the 24mm rear torsion bars. The 24mm bars are 19% stiffer than the stock 23mm as opposed to the 63% stronger 26mm turbo bars which Dave originally used for rallying - the ideal compromise might be a 25mm but I suspect that with the light weight of the S body the 24mm SC/Carrera bar might be the perfect choice for touring around Irish roads.

I have a new Kunsthzlack Plate, should we fit this and what code would we use, or keep the original as above and what colour code, the original Sepia or what is now a PTS Grey?

It's been a while, but at last I can show more photos of the engine build now that we have prepared and painted the parts. We all agonised over the decision to paint or patina the engine shroud with the decision left in my court; so we painted it, along the cam covers and alternator fan & shroud. Must admit I'm happy with the results, what do you think?

At first I did not agree, but we must be brave and now I think the red fan will compliment the grey black body. Wish I had it here now, spring is arriving and the traffic free roads of West Cork beckon.

More parts arrived for the engine today. New points, distributor cap, plugs & leads ensure we have a perfect ignition system; SSI's underneath are the perfect (only?) choice for the exhaust. Note that these are the MFI version of the SSI with pre-heater for the intake/MFI.

Beautiful pics! I admit that I love old patina. I just clean my old stuff and put it back on, wear marks and all. But what a beautiful job!

Ah, now see, there's the difference. In California patina means that the part is a little tired around the edges, maybe cosmetically impaired but functionally still perfectly useable. Sorry Dave, but in Ireland any 911 part that is sent over with "a little old patina" is, quite simply, "fecked", needing far more than a "wee tink" to put right. Or such is my experience in this case, but I will very much look forward to being proved wrong at some stage soon.

I made every effort to wipe the Navigator's blood off any bits I sent you. His pace note pad gave him a wallop on the nose during the roll. Or, it might be the biff I gave him when he asked the question " does this mean we are out of the rally ? " Either way it's hard to remove 13yr old blood stains.

How does this happen to such a beautiful car. It seems to me that even if it were parted out, that would be a better outcome than throwing it in a pile of tires and letting it rot away. Sad, sad, sad!!
