You will always have a bit more temp on the inside (if your alignment is correct)......even with shielding, there will be a bigger chance of higher temp on the inside because of various factors.
If you are talking about 15 deg Fahrenheit that's nothing...go for the added camber, you will need it.

What I really want is the GT3 startup sound with aftermarket exhaust. For some reason I love the sound of the "choking delay" on the startup and then blasts with volume. No one can replicate that. If you heard it in person, it blows your mind. YouTube doesn't do it justice

Other manufactures are also adding heat shielding to their OAPs. It seems the market is moving in that direction.

While extra shielding is great this is more on the line of monkey see, monkey do...got to match what the competition offers.....this never happened on the 981 exhaust options and the OEM had the shields.
The good thing is that shielding and/or ceramic coating can be added at any time.

Heat is definitely an issue on these cars. I had two coils fail on my Cayman S due to heat. Had to install 911 cylinder head heat shields to stop this phenomenon. PAG saved a few nickels not putting them on the Caymans. That car had lesser horsepower than a GT4, and we are now up to 414-450 for these cars. Whatever OAP I eventually purchase, it will have the wrapped aluminized type of shielding on it. Anything to keep heat out of the engine compartment.

I also had the same problem...but you are talking about coils which are within a few inches from headers up front, right next to the engine (another heat source).
I agree, PAG decided to save some $$$ on those coil shields. I added them after changing all 6 coils. A must on the 981, specially if you track the car.
The area where the GPF resides is around +30 inches behind the headers in and area that has air flow....having the GPF does indeed create a cork that causes a heat build up but not after taking it out.
Extra safety is great and doesn't hurt but this is a non-issue once you take out the GPF.

BTW....if something does indeed need heat/temp control are the headers....those have basically no air flow and hot air goes up into the engine bay with nowhere to go.

Anyone else with Soul Race Exhaust care to provide some feedback on how bearable the sound is?

Also for those with aftermarket headers (with sport cat?) AND race exhaust please provide your feedback.

Hey you say that, but we have another 718 GT4 showing up Monday to complete the Long Tube Street header development. Knowing you, I'll be getting a ring not too long afterwards to kick things up another notch haha. There's been a lot of fellows posting feedback on our race exhaust systems in the thread, and I'm sure you've read most of them at this point. That said, there are many running these systems that simply aren't active on Rennlist. I'll shoot you a PM and perhaps I can connect you with a couple to chat with directly for some more independent feedback. I want to make something as clear as I can, and I'll continue to say this to everyone inquiring about our Race Exhaust both in this thread and outside of Rennlist.

This is by no means a drone free exhaust system, it is a Race Exhaust specifically designed with priority in R&D for performance, weight loss, and overall pitch/tone at WOT in the mid range to top end of the powercurve. Cabin presence at cruising speeds was not a high priority in this particular system development, but it was considered and resonators were added as an option to take the edge off that drone and smoothen out the tone. It still drones, and everyone who drives it will experience that drone up until about 2800rpm where it clears up. The drone is much less on the 718 GT4 than the previous generations of 987/981, and to those people who have experienced aggressive race exhausts on the previous generations...or other cars...this could be considered more reasonable and perfectly manageable.

That said, drone sensitivity is extremely subjective and this may not be the system for you, but it could very well be. It doesn't matter how many people to talk to for feedback, it quite frankly doesn't mean a thing until you put it on the car and try it for yourself. If you want to try it, dedicate to it and place an order knowing that we are not the kind of company that leaves you hanging out to dry with a product that does meet your individual goals. If you don't like it, call me. We will come up with an alternative game plan, we've got your back with a no excuses no BS customer service policy.

Agree with jmartpr's comments.

There are a few smaller vents to send air over the headers though, but not near enough to keep the engine bay from warming up. The concern for the shielding for the OAP is really to keep the tires and brake lines cooler. I don't want the inside of my rear tires to be 20-30 degrees hotter half way through a session on the track. Heat reduction can of course be achieved via insulated aluminized wraps or specialized ceramic coatings such as that done by Jet-Hot.

The boxer motor has a host of subtle undertones and harmonics depending on RPM and a great exhaust let’s those through without causing your ears to bleed.

if you could take the noise the Soul race system makes and dial it down 20dB it would be perfect. Sadly, that’s a very allusive target.

The point I was making is still valid, it doesn’t take a lot, from a measurement standpoint to make a significant change in the perceived volume. I.e. LOUD does not always equal GOOD. Catching up on the development thread today I've seen you've been quite active, and appreciate it very much. You bring up a lot of good points and I've quoted a few choice posts to review. Firstly, I agree with you in that any combination of our catless Competition Headers with an exhaust solution that deletes the particulate filters and replaces the PSE muffler is too aggressive for pretty much anyone running on the street. On a car running a full exhaust system replacement, I personally am not quite a fan of how deleting the cats completely brings in a more raspy and unrefined aspect of exhaust note/tone (especially on deceleration) to an exhaust system that otherwise was silky smooth in comparison. To someone after maximum sound level and power, this is a negligible drawback and comes with the territory. Those people are dedicated "track rats" and "street warriors". While I still consider myself both of those for the most part, I'd still consider our Race Exhaust with our Long Tube Street Headers with HJS HD 200cell cats to be borderline too aggressive, though a heck of a lot smoother in tone than Competition Headers/Race Exhaust.

Now when it comes to our Race Exhaust on this platform with the stock headers...you'd have to hear it in person to really get a feel for it, but honest to goodness it's really not as loud as you would expect inside and/or outside for a "race exhaust". Our race exhaust for the 981 is WAY louder and drones WAY worse than what we offer for the 718 GT4/Spyder. I strictly steer people away from buying our race exhaust for any street use the 987/981 platform, I consider that a track only system. Considering how far apart in reasonable street driven experience these two generations of race exhausts are between 987/981 and 718...I can't help but stress that you can't simply say "race exhausts are not appropriate for street vehicles, period, full stop" as it just is not the case for this particular design race exhaust for this particular platform of car. For someone that can take some low rpm drone, it's something you can drive every day and fly under the radar on light throttle, with a wonderful smooth/high pitched tone at WOT that's not insanely aggressive...given you keep cats on the car! You really can't do that on our equivalent system on the previous generations cars. Of course this is a subjective opinion, but having driven more configurations of exhaust systems on these cars over the years than most anyone, I feel it is very accurate and transparent opinion despite it being a bit against the generalized assumptions of the "race exhaust" experience.

To note, I expect we're on the same page based on the above response that the Competition Headers/Race Exhaust is just ridiculous for most people haha. You had mentioned "if you could take the noise the Soul race system makes and dial it down 20dB it would be perfect. Sadly, that’s a very allusive target". I was hoping that's in reference to the combination with our competition headers, as 20db drop over just this particular race exhaust with factory headers would be a little boring haha. That said though, I would love to urge you to review the release of our "Sport Package" or our Competition Over Axle Pipes with our Valved Exhaust System in post #360. This setup combined with factory headers has all the benefits of the Race Exhaust's higher/smoother pitch but maintains a much more reasonable cabin presence at cruising speeds. It also comparatively reduces the overall sound level a notable amount due to implementing a secondary flow path even with the valves open. I feel like this setup is much closer to that dialed down allusive target that you (and we) were searching for as what I'd call the "Golden Ticket" setup for street use. Either way, I love constructive conversation like this and appreciate you posting it up
