Unless one had to get a power top, the Spyder is the one to get for only ~$8,500 over the 718 GTS. More power, exclusivity, better looks, less overall depreciation & better suspension.

Bingo! GTS 4.0 is a great engine/car but easily gets into 992 pricing with a few options. While very nice, I would not deem it special. The GT4/Spyder are special and the value proposition relative to the GTS is strong. You get a lot for the $13.2 k difference (GT4) and even more so for $8.4k (Spyder).

Not sure I agree, at least not in Canada. I have been considering a 992 (Base $113,000 CDN). A "few options" gets it to $120-$125K. A 718 GTS 4.0 starts at $94,500. The same level of options puts it at $100-$105K. That's $20K difference, and you cannot order a manual transmission in the base 911.

I am not really interested in a GT4 as it is a little more track focused than I want. Not sure I see $13-$20 K of value in the difference. GT3 front suspension, 30 mm suspension drop, +20 HP, bigger brakes, wider rear wheels and an ugly (to me) wing are not worth that price. YRMV.

I priced out fairly similar GTS 4.0 and GT4 builds at a 14k difference. Since I track very regularly, it's probably worth the increase for the GT4, but if someone is tracking, say, <10 days a year, it could go the other way. Driving skill can easily make up the 20 hp difference.

I also agree the Spyder is a nice buy this time around.

One other perspective to add to the mix, and as someone who's spending $110K+ on his GTS 4.0... I don't care how much a 992 costs. They could be $50K or $150K. I want a Cayman.

Tough decision. On one hand, the Spyder’s better looks, GT3 suspension, beefier tires/brakes, more freebie trim options and smaller depreciation make the $8400 diff a bargain. On another hand, the Boxster GTS 4.0’s power roof, lighter/smaller brakes, lighter/narrower wheels, and suspension make it more optimal for backroads. One with pccb and lwbs comes the closest to the lightweight roadster ethos.

If only the 718 Spyder wasn’t the best looking modern Porsche in decades. And Python Green is now available for the Spyder too.

Lol... Actually enjoying the process. Have deposits on both and wouldn’t need one until next Spring anyway. And not exactly suffering with my 987 Boxster S either. Maybe this “process” is just my subconscious telling me that what I already have may be better than both modern alternatives.

Similarly, I keep on going back and forth between a GTS 4.0 and...something else. Like you, I'm in no rush and was hoping for a Spring ED. Maybe cars will start arriving soon/become available for drives.

I get it completely; I own one and love it. It is a 2018 CS that was MSRP 82k; I got it at about 6% discount before prices dipped. I love it. Every time I get 911 lust, my next drive reminds me that I'm not missing anything (the sound is a non-issue IMO). That being said, I wouldn't spend $35k more for the GTS 4.0 if I got upgrade mania. I'd go for a 992S with comparable spec to your 4.0 which would come out at about $135k.

Could not agree more. I've had 3 Caymans so far... a 987.1, 987.2, and a 981... and now I have an order in for a 718 CGTS 4.0. Could have bought a 911 multiple times. They are great cars, but I just feel better in a Cayman.

Anyone cross-shopping GTS 4.0, Spyder, or GT4 with 992 is yet to figure out what they want and why they want it.

Agree, Cayman is a sports car. 992 is a (hyper-capable) GT. Most succinct way to put it.
