Sweet looking build indeed, you are gonna love it. Its always hard to get out of a car you really like but you are making room for a new driving experience. I am also taking the optional 10MM suspension height. I have to lock down my build soon but am still debating what color. Not a bad problem to have in truth , we are a lucky bunch of people....

In the same waiting game as others. Dropped off the '15 F82 M4 on Monday... quite a sad day for me. Dealer visit tomorrow to make a final change and receive my respective freeze, build, and delivery dates.

Looking forward to returning to the NA world and of course my first Pcar, in the "junior" 4.0 litre no less. Waited a few years but also quite excited to join the Rennlist community.

BMW M cars can be wonderful but you will really, really like your Porsche sports car.

God bless,

On gts 4.0, the option is for 10mm higher. Whats is SPASM and how is it different from PASM?

I believe SPASM is 10mm lower than PASM. Since the GTS 4.0 comes standard with SPASM, the option is to go with 10mm higher PASM.

Godspeed,

Confirmed an early October build, late October shipped, and mid-late November delivery (6-8 weeks in all)!

Porsche doesn't seem to use the term SPASM, at least not on the website. The choices seem to be PASM with the sport suspension (presumably what used to be called X-73) and plain vanilla PASM, presumably without the sport suspension.

"Sportily tuned. Direct steering for excellent cornering performance. Just two features that speak for the PASM sport suspension with ride height lowered by 20 mm (0.78 in) in lightweight construction. For a little more ground clearance and comfort, the Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) is also available with ride height lowered by 10 mm (0.39 in)."

Agree. When I bought my previous 981 Cayman GTS in 2015, I owned a nicely spec'd e92 M3. I was afraid that I would miss it, but Porsche is simply in a different league from even BMW-M, Merc-AMG, Audi-RS. For the enthusiast driver, Porsche's ability to engineer the perfect balance between pure sport, and real world driving needs is simply uncanny.

In coming from your 2015 M4.......I have only ever owned three forced induction cars in my life (personally, not including my wife's cars). I had a 2000 Audi S4, which ended getting highly modified, a 2014 Audi S6 (APR tune), and my current Macan GTS (Cobb tune). NA motors have a very different feel, and you do not get that swell of midrange torque that turbos will provide. However, I have always enjoyed a precision driving experience more than just boost. When driving hard, there is a better sense of predictability with a NA car than a forced induction vehicle. There is more of a wired-to-your-nervous system feel to the motor, and, in the case of Porsche, most everything else. The other thing with big-power forced induction cars, is that they need AWD to prevent the stability and traction systems from intervening all the time. It is simply the nature of the big, early torque curve that overwhelms RWD, in a front-engine RWD configuration. Even my e92 M3 which had a NA V8, the traction/stability would be kicking in a lot.

Porsche, there is no substitute. Really.

A BMW person that drives a Porsche becomes a Porsche person. Happens all the time, and almost never the other way around. And I have a BMW, too — a 5 series cruiser, which I love for what it is.

From the site under
Standard features: 718 Cayman GTS 4.o

Electronically variable active damping system with two manually selectable modes (‘Normal’ and ‘Sport’); ride height lowered by 20 mm and with sportier setup

Under options in the car configure site
Raised ride height of 10 mm in relation to the standard -20 mm suspension. The stiffer anti-roll bars are replaced with softer 718 GTS anti-roll bars.

So can one correctly assume that choosing the 10mm raised option is the appropriate choice for a Boxster GTS 4.0 which will be used strictly for pleasurable street driving?

It's probably better thought of as being lowered 10 mm from the stock 718 suspension, with the other option lowered 20 mm. I have heard from lots of people with the sport suspension (20 mm) that think it is wonderful on the street as well as the track, but 20 mm is more than I want to deal with. With the amount of bumpy roads, potholes, speed bumps ramps, etc. out there I have ordered the 10 mm option.
