"Later" is the only mention in the reviews I've watched/read (Carfection/PistonHeads/C&D).

Do we have any idea what colors/options will be available on the US car? This is awfully tempting.

The bummer is that the Spyder is $2k cheaper than the GT4 and the Boxster GTS 4.0L is $2k more than the Cayman so the Spyder is at a bit of a discount.

Lighter than the 718 Spyder or the 981 Spyder? I think Catchpole was referring to the 718 Spyder.

Just did the math. The GTS should be ~$15k less expensive using the £12.3k delta from a 718 GT4.

I made this observation to myself as well. The true "value" seems to lie in the GTS 4.0 Cayman vs the GT4. For the life of me, I cannot decide between vert or coupe. If going vert, I would most likely get the Spyder. I don't care about lack of a power top. Going coupe, I would find it hard to justify the price premium of the GT4 over the GTS, assuming US prices are in line with predictions.

My take on "vert or coupe" is that you get the Boxster if you can drive it more often with the top down then up, otherwise get the Cayman. The more north you are, the more likely a Cayman makes more sense.

Good point and I generally agree with you. However, whether coupe or vert, this would always be a "Sunday" car driven 5-6 months out of the year, and having open top motoring is more than mildly appealing. To that point, and even though it was a POS which I lemon lawed, I miss the open top feeling that I had with my JK Wrangler.

I have heard or read several times that, according to the fellow at Porsche who's in charge of this new 4.0 motor, Markus Baumann, the only difference between the 718 GTS 4.0's motor and the 718 GT4's motor is software. If that's the case, why is the redline of the GTS 4.0's motor 200 revs shy of the redline of the GT4's motor?

For Christ & heaven,

That's probably part of how they reduced output...just set a lower redline and probably a bit of timing adjustments.

Porsche marketing at work. The GT4 doesn't make peak hp over 7800rpm so clipping the redline 200rpm is all smoke and mirrors. If history repeats they will just limit throttle opening to like 90% and GTS' will just be a tune away from getting the full 8k rpm 415hp engine in the GT4.

Still prefer a Spyder but this makes for one heck of a plan B.
