sorry didn't post ADM.

ADM is 20k. Which from what I've seen is about average. That's how much I paid for my GT4.

Forget the wait, uncertainty, and ADMs and just go buy this near-new and perfectly spec'd 981 GT4 with 1300 miles: https://bringatrailer.com/listing/20...cayman-gt4-97/

Not only is it a great car in and of itself; it also makes for a great trading pawn that WILL get the attention of the dealers you're trying to woo.

Hey--maybe I'll go buy it to help me get a GT4 RS!

No affiliation...other being a lover of GT4s.

Good luck!

If you’re going to buy cars at retail and sell to the dealer at wholesale, seems like it’d be less hassle (and taxes) to pay ADM…what am I missing here?

To some dealers it's perceived as less shady. For example, my dealer doesn't/won't charge ADMs ...but they will take it in trade, so to speak.

I can also see how some would see this as more shady, not less.

The other benefit is giving the dealer another car to sell, on which they can make money in all the ways dealers make money.

Yeah, the dealers who are "proud" to proclaim they don't charge ADM mostly find other ways to get their extra pound of flesh by calling it something else. They aren't altruistic endeavors, generally.

That’s comedy gold right there. A lifetime?!! Porsche owners? Who knew a lifetime was only about 18 months long…

I didn't read @JCZ5 original post to see if you quoted only a snippet......but I will say he/she has a point that the GT4 does have buyers that are looking to hang onto that car for years, perhaps even their last. Not all are rotating out quickly or using it as a carrot for a GT3+ allocation.

I'm one of them. I have switched our cars every year up to this point, but most of it was really to build up to the GT4. The GT4 is the ultimate culmination of the perfect sports car for me. Originally that was going to be my S2000, however a recent accident in my daily (I was rear ended) made me reconsider the safety of that car. I'm 6'3" and my knees basically were hugging the steering column. Any sort of collision most likley means leg damage and that's just not something I want to deal with. Not to mention medically, driving a manual is just not really recommended by my doctors anymore. I still wanted a high revving, NA, Mid-engine, RWD car, and what better upgrade to the S2000 than the GT4.

I plan on holding onto the GT4 till I can't drive anymore.

100%, also lots of people who claim they got "MSRP" don't disclose what they received on a trade in/had to get PPF/had to get extended maintenance/had to buy other cars/etc. There are some that truly got MSRP but alot of others who got MSRP but dealer made up costs elsewhere.

A lot of of this ADM vs no ADM is market timing too. Prior to COVID, these car and previous gen were getting ADM. When COVID hit and people started abandoning their orders, MSRP was readily available. Now we're in a place where ADM is back. Some dealers charge more than others and some recoup it with lower trade in values, etc. The rarity now is a dealer that truly charges MSRP with no strings attached.

And you know this how? Because they said so on an Internet forum?

If I had a nickel for all the Rennlisters who swore that XYZ car was their forever car, only to read their for sale ad in the Marketplace 6-18 months later about how they ‘hate to sell their dream car’…
