This bearing has 320 000km on it and still had a lot of life left in it. Maybe the key is to have it as a daily driver.

Imre,

You got the IMS bearing out?

I love that you have used some Mastercraft and other 'discount' brand tools to get this done....

(didn't work on the Porsche today, gave my 2002 Jetta 1.8T some love. New rear rotors and pads, and an oil change.....)

It'll be a week before the replacement bearing is here so today, bungee corded the spare Vortech V2 I have. Just to see what it would look like. It came off a BMW M5 with very few miles, had it sitting on the shelf well over a year, waiting for a car to graft it in. Since the engine is out and have a week to wait, might just build a bracket for the SC, so that later on, when time comes for more power, it will be less of a work. If anything, it looks neat, that's for sure.

The last picture is not mine, found it on the net, the SC bracket looks simple enough to make.

You'll be able to get the jump on the 997 guys with that thing installed.

I was patiently waiting to see how you felt about this part once extracted.. I bet this is the typical result, despite all the fear mongering. Great thread !

Imre,
Problem is the gas tank is in the front....that's Ok though, cause you're going off the road backwards anyway......

I'm officially signing up to be the co-pilot for this test run.....

I will bring protective headgear along with a change of underwear

Yes, it was Rob. The old girl is in the 996TT category.

This car will stay N/A for a while. Want to make sure all is well before doing anything crazy to it. The 928 was stock for the first couple years too.

Picked up the starter and alternator tonight. Will start bolting them in tomorrow evening. Earlier, picked up a good used oil filter housing from Randy at Whale Tail. Mine has the edges worn off from all the oil changes. Also one of the coolant hose had a deep wear mark on it. Looks like the corner of the block or head was running against it. Ordered a new one.

Both were sent to a pro, to take care of them. The alternator got a full rebuild and the starter only needed a good greasing.

Saw a familiar car on the way home, another Porsche support vehicle (Clive's A6).

Starter and alternator are in and so is the intake manifold. Starting to look like complete engine. Waiting for the IMS bearing.

Make sure Clive is diligent with his oil changes. Synthetic only. The 3.0 is a cam eater...
