leak down tests sound very promising. Did you get a replacement water pump?

The water pump casting looks new. The pump must have been changed not too long ago. I'll check the service history, maybe I can find the age of the pump.

Could very well have. I wonder if there was a update on it, the part number on it should be able to tell it there was replaced recently.

Default Don't touch 928 parts

Leave 928 parts untouched, there for sale!

I'm only selling the spare 928 parts that I won't be using.

The oil pump and the passanger side timing chain ramps are on. After this I'll have to make a couple cam holdown and locking tools. Then the camshafts can go in. Tomorrow the LN IMS bearing will be ordered. Getting dark fast now days.

Looks like a great project you have on the go. You've may have already looked into this but as an option to the LN IMS bearing you could replace it with the stock bearing. I just suggest this because you did get 300,000km on the original bearing and there is no real history on the LN bearing. Pelican have a kit for $165.00

I've looked into all the IMS bearing options since the engine was pulled. Mine is an early car with a double row bearing and I was not able to find a supplier for this bearing. The Pelican kit is a single row (what the later engines had) bearing that is widely available for around $20. The oil fed DIY set up looks really good but there is very little time on it. The $620 LN bearing has the most history but damn...$620 for a bearing?!?!?! Lately I've been leaning towards the LN unit but the oil fed setup, from an engineering point of view, looks really good too. In a few days, the engine will be at a point that I'll have to make a decision.

The hydraulic lifter baskets/cradles are installed. Next in line is either the lower intake manifold or making the tools to hold down the cams. The starter and alternator were sent for an overhaul.

There is a guy on the 996 forum that built a setup that taps into the block and feeds the beating, with fresh oil, all time. He removed the seals of the replacement bearing ($20 part) and is constantly lubricated with engine oil. When I get home, I'll post the link.
