Hi Guys,
Good to see there are a few kiwis on here. I am on the hunt for a 964 (coupe, manual) at the moment so please let me know if you know of anything out there! I am tempted by the blue turbo on TradeMe but don't think I'd feel great about driving it frequently.
I've previously had an E30 M3 and a Skyline GTR track car and on the look out for something a little different.
Cheers

Definitely talk to the independent Porsche specialists like Pete Booth, Steve Rasmussen etc as they know a lot of owners and see a lot of cars. Otherwise be prepared to act fast. My current one came up on trademe on a Sat night and it was bought by midday Sunday.

As fate would have it, the day the Golf arrived, the 996 TT spat the Dummy. I've had to source a new ABS pump for Motorscience to fit.
That's had me out in the Turbo 3.6 a bit more. What a machine. I took it out to meet my friend at Hampton Downs, who was racing in the Bridgestone series. Parked it next to a 991 and had no yearnings to leave in the other car.
In Sydney until early March, then I plan to join you lot in the 996TT, with a few laps in the Turbo 3.6 as well. The latter is too precious to risk damaging. The wheels alone are fast approaching unobtanium status.

Hi John. Not sure if your interested but Im looking to book PlayDay 29 March (9am-4pm). Ive emailed Ray Williams to see if he could be hired for the day to give me 1-1 tuition (have never driven HD as it wasnt in existence when I last lived in NZ). If you wanted to attend perhaps we could share his time between 2 of us....

I'm pretty sure I will be in Auckland then, although Ray would be wasted on me given I haven't been out on the track since 2003 (not a mistype). What's the deal with the playday?

That's ok John. You'll be in good company LOL! Im not sure what the Payday format is, the boys here will know. I believe its 15 minute sessions, 3 per hour from 9am-4pm. Id guess you should get around 80-100 laps over the day half them with tuition. They have 98 fuel on site. I thought it may be a good informal way to get a fix on the site and understand the correct lines etc. It will be a fairly laid back session for me, the only fast driving I have done in the last long while is fast road driving, not track...

Macca - Its Playday that we have been getting the Porsche group going for - last Sunday was the 2nd (after the first one that John attended and took photos for.) The Porsche group is cleared with Prestigio insurance so long as no more than 10 cars at a time and some rules around no slicks and no race cars. The idea is that like minded owners get to drive in the same group without the prospect of being cleaned out by a drifting Honda! Steve Rasmussen is getting a list together so we have 20-30 regulars to ensure 10-12 for each organised day - recommend you drop him a line as the 29th could be a good day for the next Porsche group.
15 min sessions, 4 groups so about 7 runs in a day (maybe 8). About 7/8 runs plus out and in laps means around 50 proper laps in the day. The sessions work well in the summer with tires going off pretty quick.
A group of us had instruction from Ray in the Dec outing and definitely worth it, especially if new to the track or not having done a track day for a while. John - he would be well worth if it you had a few sessions by yourself in the morning and then had Ray for one after that and then another later in the day. He's a top bloke - communicates really well. A lot of fun. The other great thing with the group that's starting is there are a fair few experienced drivers like Steve, George etc who are also happy to share knowledge.

Hi Peter. Thanks so much for the information. Do your have Steve's email and I will drop him a line and hope a Porsche event will be organised for that day. Either way I will be going but it would be nicer if there was a group although I'm not with Prestigio so I doubt Ill be insured in any case. Like John Im conscious I haven't done any track work since a 2-3 hour session at Taupo (one of my favorite technical tracks) during the Porsche Parade in Feb 2012. Before then not since 2005!
Ill drop Steve an email and John if your keen either way PM me and well work out an instructor whether it be Tim Martin, Ray Williams or another that has extensive 911 experience on track...
