I had similar but absurd experience at VTNZ who failed my factory coloured seat belts because they had no factory spec tags attached. They accused me of having aftermarket belts and failed it. Motorscience sorted it with a copy of the factory specs seatbelt diagram which showed colours and codes. Was a big time wasting drama for nothing tho.

Dave the simple answer is no. They make no money from a WOF and prefer doing it only for their regular customers. If you popped in there to do WOF only twice a year Im sure Dean would direct you to VTNZ fairly swiftly. Its the benefit of relationship, that said no reason Motor-science or Gillies or anyone else a Porsche owner uses to service their steed cannot perform same hassle free WOF service.

Seriously in 13 years of multiple P car ownership and extensive modding Ive never heard of any of this???
My cars get WOF'd by CCS and the insurance company gets an annually updated spreadshhet of mods. No issues, never has been and I changed from AMI to State to Classic to Presigio over the last 13 years still no issue or change in policy cost (that Im aware of). Maybe Im just self insured. Wouldnt be the first time...!
The coilover questions is an off one. These are just shocks. Cant see the issue. I guess as long as coilovers were fitted to a model in the same range its not deemed a modification beyond period (n my car 993RS had coilovers).
Im really surpised to hear that compliance and insurance are resons not to modify your Porsche. These havent ever crossed my mnd nor been brought to me as issues by the many specialists I have paid to work on my car. Heck I dont even have a factory computer in the car!

I had to get a cert/plate ($450) for the coilovers for my track Golf GTI Mk1, no WOF for me, even from the car yard my father managers.
Also, did you know that only hubcentric spacers are legal in NZ, thats with a cert, so $450 for the cert plate if thats all you have.
As for coilovers they are only aloud to be adjusted +/- 5% of the height they were certed at.
Paul, if I was you Id just get a set of matched springs and shocks (with maybe adjustable damping).

Mark, you will be the one in the **** without having a cert if you have an accident. Porsche owners arent above the law. Feel free to prove me wrong by taking your car to an LTSA WOF station and see what you fail on. CCS are also putting there ***** on the line as well by issuing you WOF's.

Once certed, you even need to recert if any of the certed components revert to stock!
The US does have some of its own problems but at least basic car tweaking looks to be easier there.

Nik. If this is the case pretty certain my car is out of spec on more that one count (brakes, exhaust, coilovers, ECU). For that matter about 35% of all older 911s I see at CCS for service/WOF would also be out of spec. Technically even a chip on a naturally aspirated engine needs LV cert!
That said the factory fitted the coilovers I have (same brand Bilsein different model PSS10) and the brakes (turbo+RS to be fitted shortly) I have to the same model (variant RS) during its production life so they could be argued to be a standard factory option or should I say OE as per the wording of the guidelines. Either way both the insurance company and the WOF issuer are aware they exist. In the case of an accident I should think by rule of law there would be need to demonstrate the non cert component was at fault to cause the claim (similar case in NZ with main dealer warranty on aftermarket components - i.e. they legally cant contract out of the warranty unless they can prove without doubt the aftermarket part caused the issue at hand). Not yet, I am really keen to have a closer look at your car and see what the ride is like (I need to ask you nicely to take me for a spin around the block and on some bumpy roads). I was thinking the PSS10's, but on reflection, are considering the Bilstien B6 with extra thread - the target is RS + 10mm and some neg camber. But I do like the flexibility of ride comfort and heights that the P10's offer, but don't actually need something this serious............but will I regret not spending the extra $2k while doing the suspension rebuild.........?
I need to figure out what tires to use too as the current set are old and new tires just make such a massive difference to the ride. I am actually thinking Toyo 888's as they are road legal and good in the wet, so a nice road, occasional track combo. Also considering Hankook 221, but can't get my head around them being road legal??
First step is to get running in ship shape order, the car is in at Conti's getting a head to toe going over, a lot will depend on what's found and the $$ damage of this exercise. When John did this with his 964, it cost him $15K...........
I have Saturday to Tuesday off at Papamoa beach, I will be developing a 'to do' list including short shift, golden rod, front bushes, engine mounts etc...., and getting Macca to peer review when he is in town in early Jan. He dosen't know it yet, but I will be taking a harder look at his car and his advise on do's and don't bothers.
There are a couple of things that I don't particularly enjoy about the car including the engine note!! (964's sound far better), it just doesn't sound like a 911 (i.e. air cooled boxer engine). I don't want to do a Macca and scare the neighbors. The fisters and other exhausts I see on you tube make them sound 'too throaty' for my tastes, more like a V8 than a boxer engine. I need an exhaust note solution that makes it sound like a boxer engine. I also don't like the gear shift (I know this is rich for a 915 box driver), it's too long and clunky, so hoping short shift and golden rod improve this.
You can see where my stock standard, road car is heading.................. The problem is I like my cars in 'club sport' spec.
I should have purchased the 996.2 GT3......... that car is such a bargain...........

Just taking time to reflect on the year and thought I would start a log book on all of the cars and activities. First up I decided to record all of the track attendances this year. It was a slow start but I sure packed a lot into the last seven months. A lot of good memories and good times. Thanks to all of those who organized and participated.

The C4 is certainly giving back on the initial investment. 4,000km since rebuild and I'm slowing down on mods because it's almost where I want it. The RSR seat, Momo wheel and Porsche exlcusive gear **** just feel right for the track and driving in general. Love the sound from the primary bypass and RUF tail pipe. Z221s are my absolute favourite tyre. Quiet on the chip, smooth over bumps and stick like doodads to a blanket (I just need to trust them more). Despite what I say about suspension changes, what I have now is not my limiter on the track. I have 3.2 seconds to find before I can say they are. All in all a good investment, just a bit more than I wanted to spend all up. Macca forgot to mention that either I have subconsciously adapted to the gear box or the Redline has made a difference. Not so many graunches between 2 and 3rd.
