I thought I would put these pics up of a track day I attended yesterday at Taupo race track. It was great to see Andrew kicking his 993 4S around the track.

The good:

Really like the wheel and colour combo - and the fact its manual.

The not so good:

997 Turbo style wheels on a 993 Turbo is just wrong IMO.

Mmmm. Not a fan of that turbo combo either!

The 997 6spd combo is nice.

Good to hear Andrew had the black C4S out to play. Shame you both couldn't have joined us a couple of weeks ago - we had the track basically to ourselves - 20+ Porsches and a few other exotics (MP12C etc). Great day and perfect weather.

Sure. You don't have to be a sub 1.50 Taupo driver to be in our club LOL! We had Robert "Pirouette" Ho the Elise driver with us along with a MK5 GTI and another early Elise owner. I think we had 34 slots take but could have handled another 5-6 in prestige. Worked out a cheap day for tonnes of laps...and good company!

Not yet Phil - only a couple of replies but will try and sort something after the 5th so we can check on John McM's exploits in classic trials. But since you work weekends and busy with boats - how about joining the RSG group for twilight on 15 Oct @ HD - still a few spots open for that one.

Classic trials are offering a special deal. Attend both Puke on 5/10 and HD on 3/11 for $210 all up. Transponder hire of $70 takes the total to $280 but still a relatively cheap way of getting track time, particularly on Puke. Only rider is that limited to aircooled 911 and water cooled 944 as it had to be a classic.

Hi John. That's great value. Id be interested in looking at something like that to get some lap time in if any of the dates coincide with my visits. Do they have a website? Ill look at their calender. Im guessing you have to have M license, extinguisher 2kg, race suit and helmet etc?

Time to start shopping for either a decat pipe or a full exhaust system!
More likely to be the O2 sensor rather than the Cat itself.

1st round of the 2k cup this weekend at HD

Start list is here so you can see the types of cars that made it. Should be a hoot. Just a shame they're not on Sunday - could have watched from Steve's place!

Pugs and Alfa in there. I've owned a 405STI and an Alfa 33, so I know I fit in both.

An 11 year old more keen on me watching his rep rugby game than me being part of a Porsche gathering that he wouldn't be able to attend was my excuse!

Never thought that would be anything I would use as an excuse 12 years ago.

993 Turbo owner has owned it since 1998. Has 72,000 kms on the clock. Was offered a straight swap on a 996 turbo when they were nearly new and declined - and is pretty happy about that decision now!

997 owner got a large discount because the dealer was panicking the colour combo would cause the car to be unsaleable. Pretty happy when the 991 50th edition looks very similar, making it reasonably saleable after all.
