Just been down at Dave's man cave.

The Sabelt GT30 seat is a snug fit across the hips. Dave has the base set about the same level as the sliders. With the squab out, I can just fit in with a helmet on. The magic distance from base to headliner for me is 99cm.

Al this talk about seat heights and room for helmets made me realise I hadn't tried my helmet on in the 987... Similar to the 986 I can just fit my fingers between the top of the helmet and the roof lining with the seat set at its lowest position (my preferred height anyway).

To date the aftermarket selection doesn't seem to be plentiful. The closest seems to be the Recaro PP as produced for the RS and Speedster. Blame that on a narrow space with the transmission tunnel and an offset with the pedals.

I'm not sure how much room I need to clear the headlining. I will work it out tonight.
Many moons ago when before I caged my Mk1 GTI I ran a single Momo Rookie race seat. I got it with Momo sliders for it as well (incase someone else drove it), access to the rear was via the standard passengers folding seat. I never had an issue with WOF's.
Im pretty sure the Momo rails would bolt to the Recaro frame in my RS2. I cant recall what style of base a standard 964 seat base is, though I guess a standard 964 seat is a Recaro?

This has to be a first! Started my car and the heater fan sounded like it had a leaf stuck in it, a light chatter as the fan spun. I didn't think much of it until, while driving along Great South Road, a bloody big cockroach like insect crawled out of one of the centre vents and along the dash board away from me. Before I could think of finding a cloth to get it with it got to the side vent and crawled into it. By now I was at the lights with cloth in hand and ready, turned the fan on full blast awaiting the return of said creature. Tried full low a/c setting. still Nothing. Bloody thing is still in there. Don't really want to spray it and then have a dead one in there so I've left the window open hoping it will escape.

Yes, the standard seats are Recaro.

If I replace the existing spring clips to allow more sink I reckon I can get another 4 or 5 cm headroom. It doesn't fix the 23kg weight or harness issue but it will be cheap if it works.
Done. A bit disappointing. The net gain is only 2cm. On the positive side this is very simple exercise, and doesn't cost a cent. On the negative side this doesn't resolve my problem unequivocally. In the meantime I can live with the Sports seats ex the Turbo 3.6.

Hi Mate

Great video!

I'm picking up a white 991 GT3 in Europe in 3 months time if that helps answer your question. I ordered it in September 2012. Bucket list item. It will be one of the first RHD ones delivered. Its a long story, but Ill explain how it all came together on the NITT. Not sure how long Ill own it for but intend to get some good use out of it while I have it...

In the meantime here is the latest Auto und Motor Sport real life performance test of the 991 GT3 against the previous gens of GT3. All tests are done by them but unlike factory are with passenger and test gear +100kg and full tank gas.

It looks like a new benchmark even beating the wonderful 4.0RS in all performance tests and Ring time (7.25). It also set the AMS all time braking record. Should be like night and day in all aspects compared to my "new extra organic" 993...

Missing RS data from their test archives -

997.1 GT3 RS= 4.2,8.8,13.5 for 1428 kg
997.2 GT3 RS = 3.9, 8.2, 12.3 for 1404 kg
4.0RS = 3.9, 8.0, 12.3 for 1410 kg

Would be more interesting with the same tyre compounds on each car.

Matt. The MPSC is used for three of the GT3 generations on the table plus all the RS variants including 4.0RS I appended the extra data for from the AMS site. The 991 GT3 uses the MPSC2 tyre as the replacement for MPSC. MPSC is recognised as being a stickier warm weather tyre with tread rating around 80. The MPSC2 tyre on the 991 GT3 is treadwear 150 and has been designed to evacuate water better for a broader seasonal use. The 991 Gt3 will also ship on Dunlop SportMaxxx 80 rated tyres in some markets.

Macca,

You are one of the few people I know who can make money out of cars. I assume this is a tourist delivery you will play with for 6 months and then flog for a profit??
