Matt - Compression was low in a couple of cylinders, Giltraps removed the engine and sent the results to Porsche, was a couple of ago yet to hear anything more.

@Pel , I’d consider getting the barrels remade so they fit the bigger 996.2 front brakes (assuming it’s only the front wheels that don’t fit).

I’d also look at something like Forgeline - they make to order forged wheels and I think can do most in centre lock. https://forgeline.com/wheel-selector the GA1R, GA3R, GF3 all look good IMO.

Hope the 991 gets sorted before Xmas.

Wanted to do one of these myself but chickened out and got a Landcrusier instead, cool snow wagons nonetheless.

Someone mentioned to me recently that the first gen Cayenne are actually capable off-road, which I didn’t realise.

I’m tempted to get one, but think we’ll go for a Jimny instead.

Option 1: A new set of BBS Motorsport factory wheels sourced through Allports (currently waiting on pricing) expecting 10K??

Option 2: Went to Big boys Toys, chatting to Simmons Wheels who have priced to make a custom centrelock set, my SC has Simmons as track wheels and I love them, the pricing seems reasonable at circa $6,500 for a set, I have two sets of BBS already so I also like the idea of something different (perhaps use them for wets). Not set on style or color but looking at Gold FR, if anyone's interested take a look and give me some feedback??

Deep dish Simmons FR look good Pel. Easy to clean too for track wheels.

And to top off my run of good luck, back from the Playday by 12pm with a probable blown gearbox in the SC, so three Porsche’s all off road again!

Mate, you’ve had a terrible run! Hope it’s not a major. Money shift or just worn out?

Well I'm gonna put my hand up, it wasn't a money shift but was changing 3rd to 4th entering the back straight, a chance the shift wasn't perfect (cant quite remember), it buzzed and popped out of gear, then wouldn't go through the gate to 4th gear, still have all other gears albeit 5th is hard to get, just drove it straight back onto the trailer. 3rd to 4th is an easy shift hence why its a bit confusing.

Haven't done anything yet, considering my options on the box build, wanting a professional job in a timely manner, staying in Porsche circles I will probably speak to Stu at Aero, or step outside and try Kaspa trnasmissions? they do race/drift/competition cars regularly, don't see why a 915 box is so special?

I would check all of the linkages and motor mounts first. When I had my G50 gearbox issues I recall that one of the shops had a special jig to get the 915 box rebuilds correct. It’s something I would pay extra to get right as the parts are $$$ and it’s better to spend wisely rather than throw too much at it or under do it.

I asked Brian in Nelson and he had no one he could recommend. Maybe use Stuart at Aerowork to suggest someone he trusts.
