I was at Archibalds last week. There was a cayenne being valeted in the carpark out back and every servicing bay had a cayenne or macan in it (4-5 spots?) I reckon give Archibalds a try, I'm sure they could handle a PPI

If you want an independent inspection try Wayne Graves at Autothority. I am sure he would be very helpful and they have done good odd work for me over a number of years. I have also purchased from and had some Porsche Volvo and Audi servicing done At Archis very effectively if on the expensive side. Archis are very qualified but you might be better to have an independent check. Good luck and happy travelling! DB

What age vehicle are you looking at? I have a 2005S and love it. Business Class travel on the road and so usable. I will look to move to a newer one in the next two or so years so am interested in hearing about your experience.

My thoughts about how I will choose when it comes time: NZ new, Diesel, high spec, must have roof rack and tow bar. Would love to have air suspension again.

I paid $26,000 in Dec ‘14 when it had 98,000km. and it’s worth $10,000 5 1/2 years later with 165,000km. All of the usual things have had to be done, but no sign of bore scoring. Petrol consumption is wallet emptying.

Got an email from Wayne this afternoon, he's up for it, now just to arrange a time.

Looking @ GTS or S 2008, NZ new and air suspension. Prices appear to be all over the place at the moment though... Seeing everything from $18k - $32k.

SI trip was the perfect way to see out normal life prior to the pandemic Great driving, great company, and fantastic track days. Genuine bucket list event, that anyone should go on if given the chance.

Negotiated terms on this, subject to PPI @ Autothority. Fingers crossed new Porsche for the weekend.

Looks excellent. Have any of you taken a Cayenne through genuine winter conditions? Considering one for Japan, is currently tossing up between a used Cayenne and a new Jimny...

Not yet but once I get it I'll be doing my own SI tour of the west coast into Wanaka/Cardrona for skiing and then back up through the middle. Looking forward to it!

Hi all, cool to browse thorugh a couple pages here and find a fairly active and friendly community of fellow Kiwi enthusiasts, even recognize a familiar name!

i'm a future rennlister (hopefully).. currently trawling through forums, trademe and contemplating import process from japan. originally was looking to get in to it with the 996 but the ims issue scares the crap out of me albeit it is probably overblown thanks to internet, considered 987 cayman s a little, now looking at 997.1 C4S. 996 or 997 Turbo would be amazing but too far out of price range for now. spent last few years in mildly modified subaru stis, not too bothered about interiors or comfort, really favour a raw driving experience and a bit of a boxer engine fanatic , cant wait till i find the right one and make that step towards dailying a childhood dream car 😀

Go for the C4s. If they were going to go they probably would have by now...

If you want to get free of any IMS worry (I'm not saying you should!) you need to go with a Mezger engine (996 turbo, GT3) or 997.2.
I've just sold my 996.2 C2 manual traded on an Aston Martin Rapide S. My 911 would be one of the best of its kind in NZ, and is on Trademe at O'Reillys Garage in Wellington. It's a great car. IMS done plus lots of other stuff. Drives as a 911 should.
Happy hunting!

Others will say about the IMS, but if it is a real concern change it, many off the shelf fixes. I have a few P cars, the 996 is one of my favourites. Value for money will be hard to beat. They are around 20 years old now, so you will need to replace many items. I would look for one with good service history.

on my 996 is did the ims with the RMS and AOS when i changed the clutch and flywheel. as well as some other wear parts. I would specifically look at the suspension on the 996 ( and Boxster) the c4 is very hard on top mounts and it will be needing new coffin arms, etc lower down. not to mention engine mounts, shocks etc etc. But this is a good opportunity to replace with aftermarket if you want some a bit different. My only regret is i didn't refresh my suspension sooner.

For me the 997.1 just isnt a big enough step up for the money unless you hate the 996 lights.

thanks that is a good point and a lesson i learned with many of my previous cars. always exciting going for the upgrades but something i intend to list out as part of my budget with the car purchase, so don't fall in to the trap of buying too close to my limit and having it as a garage queen if/when i find something needs doing 😅 would very much consider a sorted 996, i don't hate the lights but like many others much prefer the 997 styling inside and out. the price hike is a bit rough, will keep looking and try stay patient.. covid certainly contributed to scarcity of all the fun cars hopefully there will be a few more starting to come through this year.
