O I C, nah I am going more DIY with the AMG paddles spliced into the standard 997.1 steering wheel and harness. While I like the new wheel a lot better the cost of it and the airbag was prohibative for my budget. That said if I get this done successfully and like it I may upgrade in future, but only if I can avoid the import taxes!

Ah damn I could have given you a set of the AMG paddles - I bought some for mine years ago but never completed the install.

Default New to Rennlist

Hi people,
just joined up as could see some pretty useful info available. Been a Porsche junky since 1977.
Worked up from a new imported Signal green 924 to a new imported Alpine White 944 in 1985, then a second hand red 968 then to present 993 in 2005. Living in Christchurch and currently own ‘96 993 C2 Targa Tiptronic in Alpine white.
Just had Targa roof adjusted but would love to get a copy of the Targa roof manual from somewhere so I can DIY.
Presently working on HiFi upgrade and posted under “993 speaker upgrades” with some questions and observations.
Been a PCNZ member for sometime but haven’t been to many outings recently. Will have more time now retired!
Cheers DB48

I am assuming you DIY'd the new wheel, couple questions:
1. Where'd you source the replacement wheel and airbag? What was the damage? (I am still going ahead with the AMG paddle conversion but interested in the alternative should I want to update)
2. Where'd you find a place that sells the centre M12 spline tool? Can't find any where on bunnings/mitre 10?

Hi DB48......re your hifi Upgrade.....do you have the hifi speaker grilles or the round ones.......if they are the round factory ones and you have no use for them then would you consider parting with them.

You'll need to go to a tools supply/trade shop. I got this: https://southerncrosstradies.com.au/...drive-bit-set/ but in NZ. Can't remember the brand now.

I bought the wheel and airbag together from a seller on eBay, who ended up sending it from Lithuania. Wheel came from a Macan. I paid about $2000 landed.

I can't remember if I bought the spline socket from Repco or Bunnings - Both had options, most in small socket sets. Wasn't overly expensive.

Hi there. I have the hi fi option speaker box. No round grill sorry.
Managed to get 4 ohm Rockford Fosgate 4x6 P1462 Punch speakers for rear parcel shelf. Fitted without the baseplate and original oblong covers clipped straight on. Not sure if the same brand 5” speakers will fit for the larger round hole in Hi Fi speaker box under the large door grill. Anyone had any experience?

Thanks @nzskater Wow that is a good price might search ebay for similaR deal in time.

I worked out a Torx T55 is the right size to do the job without it being the exact right tool. I managed to complete the project, was made more challening as result of the MF steering wheel with the soldering a bit of a challenge for a novice like me but I've managed to complete successfully.

Works like a charm and love the paddles by comparison to the buttons

Nice one!! Agree on the paddles making a huge difference. I'll admit that I didn't often change gear manually using the buttons - the placement was ok when going in a straight line but as soon as you're in corners it became cumbersome and uncomfortable. Now I use the paddles more often than not.

Anyone in Wellington wanna go for a drive/cruise day? Or know of any decent roads? I've only been in NZ 5 years and it seems like its a minimum of 1hr out of Wellington to get to any good tarmac.
