Looks like Matt and I crossed posts at the same time so now you have two perspectives on this. I think we are saying more or less the same thing. The course I did was short and not overly hard to memorize, so this is a good additional point by Matt. Also something I didnt mention - if you have a tight cone to turn around (say 120-180 degrees) then get as wide as you can before turning into it. The 964/993 do not have great turning radius unlike the boxster/Cayman and need a bit of extra room to execute.

Lastly, many say these courses are easier and faster in a 2WD vs a 4WD due to less under-steer and the ability to modulate the rear attitude of the car via the throttle pedal with better modulation. I would be surprised if you were faster in the 4WD 996TT than the 964T. The challenge with the 964T will be keeping the car smooth as the boost will try and upset things. Also you have factory shocks I believe that are 20 years old so you will not handle as flat. This was very evident in the black 964 3.3 T we had running in our group....lots of nose up, nose down going on and lots of leaning in the corners....

MJG:

That first photo was you just about to pass that corvette right???
Awesome day, the C2s went really well, still stuggling with tyre getting too hot and no front grip and finding where to set the hot pressures. I'm getting about a 6psi rise from cold and trying to end up with 34ish front and 36ish rear hot. Don't know if that's good or not.
Oil temp was up to 120 on that last run of the day. Pagid blues in front performed reasonably well but seemed to start to go off on the last session of the day?

Have look at getting in from USA. Might not be as bad as you think - pelican parts?

996 Turbo one is $500 locally. I think it was $250 ex UK, but freight was $100.

I think I got past a couple of corners later. I've got a bunch of photos of your car, I can PM a private link or post them here if you're interested.

That's not bad, I'd say I let about 10psi out of my rears before they settled and they weren't even getting that hot. Glenn at Motorscience recommended a nitrogen fill so that the tyres remain stable with temp rises, so I'll look into that as it's a bit of a pain to make so many adjustments for each day. I've found that road tyres will always end up too hot after a couple of good laps, the solution is another set of wheels wrapped in R compounds.

Yeah, I'll order one or two spares (probably the larger GT3 Cup version, which is also cheaper!) from wherever is cheapest overseas... but I'll suck it up and get the replacement now so I'm ready for Hampton Downs on the 9th.

replacement front splitters (or not) has been debate on forums like this all around the world many times. Must say when I had a 996gt3 I just took it off like Macca and gave it to the next owner wrapped in bubble wrap.

Matt. The top speed you are likely to achieve at HD is 210ish on the front straight. At this speed any minor down force or aero that black bit of plastic gives is minimal so don't be concerned it will affect vehicle stability. At 270kmph on the Northern Loop sure it may make a small difference. Just saying, dont get concerned its actually doing much as from my experience (and Im sure Graeme will agree) its mostly keeping Porsche worldwide part profits higher. Plenty of debate on this on Pistonheads etc.

My experience with Nitrogen is that you will still get 6 or 7 psi expansion from heat relative to overnight cold but it stops there rather than continuing to expand. With air on a 45km stage and hot day I once got 11 psi from overnight cold (or 7psi above touring)

My experience with nitrogen is that its a waste of time because as soon as you pump the tyres up again after the track work with your electric air-pump you are introducing oxygen and compromises the N2s benefits. N2 is hard to find a supply of and expensive unless you carry a bottle of it (not sure if you can buy it like that in NZ).

I found with my RE11s I was getting 9 psi from overnight cold to high after a 10 lap track session and that the tyres were best between lap 0.5 and 5.5. With an R compound at ideal hot pressures Id expect from lap 1.0 to lap 7.5/8 before they start to go off.

I would suggest your 2007 fronts are well heat cycled and as these are arguably the most important points of grip on the 911 you will find the biggest gains by changing these out for new rubber.

As Graeme says N2 gives you only 5 psi benefit in reality. Some people believe (falsely) that N2 doesnt expand when hot. Its a gas so it does expand. Fact is you may save yourself maybe 1 or 2 bleeds over the course of a 7-8 session track day but no more than that IMHO...

Yep, gave conti's the chance to get real over a pair of engine mounts at $1152. Long night ahead on the web for me.

David dont stress. Do yourself a favour and email mark at FD Motorsport. He will give you the best pricing including freight you can get. Make sure you mention me. I use FD for everything these days unless the item is made in Europe like the Heigo cage (which is finally ready in 2 weeks according to the factory - the longest part order barr my VDO custom dials which took almost a year!).

Considering I was hitting 195 in the 964 C2, I'll be pretty disappointed if 15kph is all 130hp, better gearing, and a faster exit speed from the sweeper is worth.

As mentioned earlier, it works in combination with the other changes made to the car. Doesn't make sense to have thousands of dollars worth of RS aero mods on a car and then start throwing bits away.
