I decided on the double diagonal and harness guide bar - the full noise. Will fit it all up and leave bits out if it's all a bit crowded back there

I used my Hand held radar gun at a few track days now. The relative speeds on the straight are as follows 964 C4 = 188km/hr, Macca 993 = 193km/hr, Chris 944 = 193 km/hr and Neil GT3 3.8 = 220km/hr. while I can't say my machine is absolutely accurate, it is consistent lap after lap.

My last datalogged session at HD on Feb 7th shows a Vmax of 195.49kph from the GPS.

Hi Matt. We took a radar to HD on the 29th and it proved quite accurate when compared to my in car Monit rally computer which Ive had accurately distance calibrated for the Targa.

Although it was not until the last session and after John had put away the handheld radar it showed my top speed at 196kmph which I know is within 1kmph of total accuracy. Best time on that same lap was 1.22. I think when John took a reading I was around 194kmph from memory. It was my first time at HD and first time on the track for 7 years. Put it this way you would have been well quicker in my car for sure as Im a novice!

Talking with Steve the late model GT3s are good for around 220kmph down that straight. Hence my suggestion that 210ish )maybe 215kmph) seems reasonable for the 996.2 GT3. Of course it depends on how well you hook up the final part of the sweeper leading into that straight. You sound like you are quite an experienced driver at HD and I imagine in the 964 you would have been putting in consistent laps under 1.20 so you may well get closer to 220 kmph vmax. The 996.2 GT3 is still relatively low on torque which I imagine is the deciding factor here.

Just as an aside we found GPS unreliable for accuracy during the Targa for reading route books and were advised beforehand it was not a good tool for this instead using a manually distance calibrated Brantz or Monit is the recommended tool. Not sure how true this was but we couldn't set the Monit up accurately using my navMan. However on a track course that may not be an issue....

PS. Next time Im at the track I will turn on my TrackIT inbuilt GPS logger and compare to the Monit...

I'm pleasantly surprised how accurate the handheld radar is, especially considering I hang it out the gap in the fence and it has no pointer as such. I was going to sell it after doing my street traffic data work, but I'll keep it for a while yet. In the meantime, the Black GT3RS that opened it up on Sunday is in my sights. I'd be more impressed if he took it to the track.

Agreed, I reckon you would get to circa 220-230kph.

Design 911 has them at $350 and $420 per side. Ordered separately you'll pay another $60 per mount for FedEx. That makes a pair between $820 and $960, landed. Assuming $1152 is for the pair, that's not the typical Porsche premium. I suspect they might be quoting supply through Steve R.

John, are you sure you got your registration done in time? I thought I had got in quick enough, and I've paid and got a confirmation e-mail, but my name isn't on the registrations spreadsheet (on the PCNZ site), and neither is yours. Matt's isn't either (don't know if he got around to registering).

I'm going to query my registration, I'll let you know what I find out.

You can buy a portable tank for nitrogen, suitably certified and go open an account at BOC industrial gasses and fill up any time. We carry one on Targa. The 4-5psi advantage is still worth it to try to keep wear rates on tyres reasonably even. But then if you are throwing tyres out with still plenty of tread because they are cycled out then it doesn't matter?
