Where is the best place to buy Pagid brake pads? If from OS then must have fast shipping as need by the end of next week. I'm thinking blues but any recommendations on compounds would be appreciated for what is ostensibly a road car with occasional track use

Design 911 has them at GBP 160. Unfortunately the freight inclusive price will exceed NZD 400 and you get extra charges.

I use PFC 08 in Herman. Haven't let me down on the track and don't squeal on the road. They are GBP 100 a pair so will be under the limit and get delivered to your door.

Whatever you do, get it ordered asap and you should get it by the 18th. If not I have a range of used track pads you can put in on the day. Good luck.

With multiple Pagid models and pads under each colour, (e.g. 4-2 and 4-2-1 blues), the alphanumeric model numbers are safer to go off. RS19s/RS29s/RSL2s have all been fine on street for me, even cold. Super squealy though but hey, ' brakes squeal because racecar'. Some others here swap pads out between road and track to get around the squeal. Here's E92fan's take on Pagid street-race pad choices (from a BMW forum):


Pagid have a set of race pads called RS4-2 (which are blue in colour) and RS14 (which are black in colour) but they are ONLY race pads.

The road pads are called RS421 Blue and RS422 Black (which confusingly also uses a dark blue coating) .

RS421 Blue and RS422 Black pads are both fast road pads, designed for use on ultra high-performance street cars. As such, they have a higher carbon compound for extra heat resistance, and that leads to a very minute amount of squeal when the pads are cold and the weather damp or wet. Once warm, the 421 Blue pads don't squeal at all, and the 422 Blacks only a very tiny amount (which you can hear with the windows open, but not when they're shut).

The RS421 are standard fitment on things like Aston DB9, Lambo Gallardo, and the Ferarri 360. They are a fabulous road pad, with an excellent cold friction coefficient and superb resistance to heat-induced fade. They are not cheap however, at probably around £280 a set, but by God to they work well. I had a custom set of RS421s made by Pagid for my car when it was on the original 335i brakes, and now I have a set of RS422s front and rear on my AP Racing calipers.

The RS29 Yellow pads (and the predecessor RS19) are endurance pads designed for sports car racing and track days. They have a higher friction coefficient than the RS421/422 pads, and a much higher heat resistance which makes it suitable for endurance racing (or tracks like the Nurburgring). They can be used on the road, but the performance from cold isn't that great, and they squeal like a thing possessed.

I use the RS29 pads when I'm at the 'Ring, and swap back to the RS422s for the journey home and normal everyday driving.

Recommended without question or hesitation!

I've called racebrakes they have Pagid RS pads on the shelf, fronts for about $350 +gst. A little more than the PFC's but in stock. They also stock a much higher spec AP Racing brake fluid for the same price as SRF

Nice van David! The blacked out windows can make you feel like a CIA cover opps communications and listening device truck as you haul around Europe. Not sure its going to satisfy any back-road driving desires. Did you take it around the Ring yet?

No, but driving from Holland to Stuttgart I saw the turn off but spared the family the extra hours for a stopover. Once again, so close but not yet been there. Next time.

We are starting to like it a lot. Much better than a mid size sedan for long hauls but challenging in city streets and car parks. Next it will have a name and I will search trademe for one back home....average consumption so far 6.6 L / 100.

I know Alk house prices is a boring topic, and they are due to mellow out with the current China/HK stock market crash.

But........ talking to my broker today, you can now get money at 4.6% for 1-2 yrs, that's a percent cheaper than 6 months ago.

I am being told to fix short at the moment (6mths) as some are expecting interest rates that can be negotiated into the very low 4's (I think this would be the cheapest money in a 100yrs?)

All those property drug addicts are just about to get a new huge whiff of the crack pipe, now that Mum and Pop can put another hundie on the house for the same repayment money.

This is going to go nuclear when it turns sour??
