Any Rennlisters from New Zealand?
Anyone know when they're due back? Would be great to at least park Porsches down both sides of the road leaving the airport with flashing headlights. Sure, maybe cops and towies would make out like bandits but it would be something to tell your grandkids about!
Macca and JMc, the only thing missing from your comments about running the older cars is power corrupts, and a lot of horse power, corrupts absolutely...........
The best bit about the GT3 (even though it was only a DT day), was being able to blitz past everyone, anywhere and at anytime on the track.
I am not used to having the power to easily overtake cars coming out of turn 8 and completing the manoeuvre in time to scrub the speed at the crest for entry into barrel 51.............
You can say yeah its more rewarding preparing the overtaking manoeuvre 3 corners ahead, but buggar that - I have done my time in having to late brake in the C3 and plan a lap ahead in the 993, I just like the laziness of blitzing past whenever it suits.............

Ideally a well sorted track day orientated air cooled turbo would fit the bill.
Not looking to run race rubber or worry about quick times, just want to enjoy driving safely on track and have fun doing it, too many variables on the roads for me.

The problem is only Macca can get a GT4 for $150K and only 1 or 2. If he could have secured a 3rd at this price point, I would of put my name down too.
Everyone else has to pay circa $200K and join the waiting list...........
So there is no point talking about the GT4 at this price point.
There are a LOT of 991 GT3's around (several at CCS yesterday alone) - wait another 2 years and you will be be able to run one of these for $150K and they are much faster than a GT4.........

Sure Pel - we all remember saying that sometime! That said, there is plenty of fun to be had on street tyres, even if it's just looking to hang onto the tail of something, or someone, faster. Beyond an alignment, suitable brake fluid and maybe pads, there's really no hurry to go in deeper.
That said i am looking into ways to get him to understeer a bit less and turn better. Is this the beginning?
Pel, there seem to be quite a few track focused 930's coming through the Japanese market at the moment. Worth keeping an eye out if that's what you're after. Edit: I take that back. Can't see any around at the moment, nor from the last few weeks.

As for the GT4, well it's way too early to count chickens because I do not have a production allocation yet (still awaiting PAG to issue 2016 production slots) but suffice to say anyone can do this and increasingly more are doing so. You don't need special privileges you just have to act quickly and with conviction that's all (and buy your currency at the right time). Patience is also required.
As for GT3, if you are serious about the track then this is of course the best option. Most know my view here of course by now. The good news is that these are relatively "cheap" in NZ and always depreciate from new so for the same price as a new GT4 you get access to a wide range of generations. If the 991 GT3 makes it to 150k in a couple of years time I would highly recommend one before they are exported to UK!!

Paul. Begs the question though...how fun would it be with a 400 BHP donk in the 993 making 300lbft and revving to 8000 rpm? step in Rothsport racing 3.9l conversion and suitcase full of pacific paesos!
This is where i'm at atm. It started this way with bikes for me. Eventually it got to the point where i simply didn't ride on the road any longer and the bike was used exclusively on track. Road riding didn't interest me any longer, though i did miss the camaraderie. I think it would be different with a car

Stickier tyres, a bit of negative camber, lowering springs, Bilstein HD struts (or equiv) adjustable sway bars - soft up front and hard at the rear.
Then you'll really need those PP's to hold you in, plus a harness bar and belts!
Get a few more laps under the belt and decide you need (want) more power and then go back and read's Paul's post... its GT3 time!!
You run out of chassis and turn in performance on the 993. This was evident to me on our runs up at Doug's bach. It's a 20 yr old Chassis. You 3 all had better handling than me.
My GT3 currently sledges and under-steers, but still turns in miles faster than the 993 does, and the 993 is dialled in..............
Almost no amount of money will make the 993 handle as well at the GT3 (and the 993 not be an all out race car).
Your 993 with a 3.9 would be a LOT of fun, but still slower than say a 996 GT3, so unless you are a die-hard about having the fastest 993, better to take your $50K engine rebuild as a contribution towards a 997, or 996 GT3, Cayman R or sell the 993 and keep the 991 GT3 as they will be faster??
If you can't find a GT3 or Cayman, I would now play with a 997 like Chris or Steve, you just can't beat technology and evolution.......
Or - you buy an IB and put a 993 engine in it (1050kg's with 280HP), but this is going to cost you circa $80K, so why not just by the Cayman or early GT3? (unless you are uber cool like the camo cap.......)
