Nice to have you back Pete.
It sounds like a GT4 is going to be approx $180K through Macca's mate. You may as well import a used 991 GT3.
The Zanzibar GT3 is nice, but will cost JMc close to $150K landed.

No, we've just been conditioned by all these $150k cars in recent weeks Just in case JMac has funds burning a hole in the wallet there's always this... http://www.911virgin.com/porscheforsale/614/996GT3Mk1/ Gorgeous - one of the nicest 996.1 colours IMO

A bigger traffic free run early this morning with Macca. Nothing like a GT3 up your **** to push things a long a bit. 20% off a PB time :-)
A couple of dumb Pukekoes made things interesting at one point.
I want one of John's stickers. EAT. SLEEP. DRIVE. REPEAT. We've been doing this all week :-P

$42.5 was supposed to be cheap for a 964.
It is interesting to see a lot of them still hanging there. The early cars on TM are not budging, the 993 turbo's will hang for a while there at that price, the 964 turbo and the 930 turbo look expensive - you'd have to say that only because they haven't moved. That 89 930 cab looks like the bargain.
Found this good site to see what is happening in the US pricewise

Three Wheelin'
gee that price a bit more than we thought? Is Macca confirming estimate at 180?

They will all sit for yonks (unless a certain P1 owner buys them with the view for export) - but they are already internationally priced and with no margin.
It took an overseas buyer to purchase the last two 964 3.6T's.
The 993 RS that was recently offered for sale is going to the UK.
If the 993TT's were black, guards red, iris blue or sliver (i.e. not arena red) - the one for $150K would probably be long gone..........
The white 930 coupe has had some serious money dumped into it, but at 150K on the clock is probably ready for a top end re-build (i.e. $25K) spend - it has had A LOT of quality maintenance, but at 30yrs old and at that mileage is going to need one at some stage if you plan to use it regularly. Pel will probably confirm most of the ones he looked at all have had major rebuilds within the last 10 years.
Yes the 930 cab seems cheep and I knew the owner of this car prior to the current one, and have been in it. At the end of the day it's a cab and restricts the market with collectors. If it was a 5spd coupe - you could ask $110K and sell it in minutes........
I was tempted to look at the LHD 964 and slowly build up a RS Cup car rep, and just track it at PCNZ, RSG and Targa Tours, but at 176K on the engine and no major engine work - I needed to budget a $25K rebuild, and hey presto a LHD 964 with 'track patina' that owes me $80K by the time you allow for the other bits (and worth less than the purchase price due to track patina).
The more I think about it - the more I think Macca is correct in buying a new car or low miles car and thrashing it for a few years before things break, and then allow several K to repaint the front and replace the windscreen and trade onto the next one.
GT3 or GTS is the way to go if you have the money.......

You're correct. I'd say cars are sitting because buyers don't see the value. The 964 is a case in point: high mileage, LHD, ex Europe and an average looking condition don't add up to $42.5k.

Paul, I had three NZ based interested parties in the Turbo 3.6. A text conversation with one today (Hamilton based) confirms he is chasing a lead on another car so the local money is there for the right car.

Just back from four days with Doug and Macca up North. I rode shotgun in the 991 GT3 and RS 60 for ~ 300km.
Based on that experience I can absolutely see the attraction of new metal. A Cayman R would round out my garage right now, however it wouldn't be at the expense of selling Herman.

There is no market or money for semi-investment classic Pcars in NZ.

This means they are ripe for low balling to flush out the real sellers / value or they will sit forever.
I do agree with you Paul but I'm a bit dark on my 964 being worth late thirties in 2013 to fifty something just 18 months later. (only dark on it because I don't own it any more). There is some genuine upwards movement in some areas.

If that R had been for sale when I was importing mine I would have bought it in a heartbeat. I can't believe Stuart is selling it or that it is still for sale.

Doug - about time we had a comprehensive running report on the RS60. That is, if you can take your hand off the gear stick for a minute
Be interested in knowing how it compares to the previous Boxster (and whether the Merc driver actually did you a favour in hindsight!)
