Does anyone know of a high mile, ugly paint, bad interior, but runs good 996 for around 10k, please let me know. Really not interested in cars that I will have to replace suspension, seats, etc and still pay 25k plus..

I will step up if I can use upgrades with sp996. Just do not want to deal with having to sell upgrades I can not use

Goal is to have around 30k for a finished one. I know I probably won't have the lightest one out there for 30k but I would get my feet wet in a few races before I cut the roof and change glass etc...

I think you may a little under the bar at 10 but at 15-20 there are lots of choices on auto trader or the like.

It sounds like you're looking for a salvage title vehicle. There's bound to be some 996's here

You should be able to find them at auction in the 10-15k range. A local GM dealer offered me a 1999 with 180k miles that was traded in for $10k about 2 months ago and I passed (gone now). When the cost of doing major repairs starts to equal the value of the car you can find high mileage cars cheap.

Check salvage auctions/dealers. That's where I got mine- I think for $14k and sold back seats, radio etc. back for $3k so about $11k net.
The car had been in a minor accident and had soft aftermarket wheels that on one side had major dents in them (think of a pizza missing a slice or 2). Looked like it had run over a curb hard but the frame was straight.
That was my starting point- here are a couple early snaps of the ugly duckling:

I am looking at salvage auctions and just about everywhere else I could think of. Was offered a 160k mile with a few dings and dents and worn seats for 6k around 8 months ago, but like everything else I was not sure which route I was going to take at that time, since I was enjoying my GT3 doing DE's. But after adding up my expenses for the year in the GT3 including track insurance I could run 3 times as many in a 996. I have no problem stepping up to 15k for the right car, just after seeing a few in the 10k or under its hard to over pay. Would also consider a turnkey in the 30k neighborhood if there was one around.
I have seen many Spec Boxsters in the 20k and under so I would think 10k delta for a spec 996 should be attainable. For 40k plus, then I would just get a retired KONi, Continental or gt3. I don't feel my skills are at that level yet and my comfort zone is with the 996.

All due respect to GT3's, but I would much rather flog a $45k SP996 on the track than a $100k GT3. These cars are a blast to drive.

The 996 is alot of bang for the buck.
Once you start racing a GT-3 the whole cup car discussion comes up again.

silly question on track and spacers; what are you guys running?

wheel width is restricted, track is restricted but offset is not, so different wheels or just spacers or....?

most of the TX based SP996s use the stock 5 spoke carrera wheels, no spacers.

You should be able to find a good rebuilt engine for $6k to $7k net of the core charge.

Ritter,

Is your car going to be ready to race at Road Atlanta Club Race? 3 of us Texas SP996's are signed up.

I'm probably not going to attend as I race with NASA that same month. Besides with the funky **** I've done to my car I'd probably be classed with the 7Cups.
