My experience has with the R1's is that they are great for 15 HC's, and then drop off, but I've also been within 1 second of my PB on 30+ HC tires. It took a soft touch to be able to do that, but it's possible. I wouldn't race them at the point, nor would I try to do setup on tires that old, but you can play around on them and have fun.

this week's OCD topic: exhausts

I was talking to Mike1111 yesterday at Sebring. He had to install mufflers to pass sound at Roebling Road (103db IIRC) on his Spec996, as it was too loud with straight pipes.

With more and more tracks setting sound limits, what are you guys doing for exhausts? straight pipes with mufflers for certain tracks? mufflers all the time? blaming the noise on the Cup cars?

I'm running some Burns mufflers custom built into a set of pipes that flange up to the exhaust manifolds. The mufflers are so wide open though that the car is extremely loud, and I suspect it won't pass sound regulations at a lot of tracks. Sounds really good though.

4 of us (that I know of) run magnaflow 14158 race mufflers. About $130 each.
I ran straight pipes for a year and just was too load even for me inside the the car.

nice, is that straight bolt on or was any fabrication required? do you have any decibel data?

beats me, it was a chin event so no transponders provided and I had an instructor in my car the whole time so I didn't bother with the lap timer app on my phone.

Had a shop weld up the pipes to the mufflers. All in (mufflers and work) was about $450

have not checked Decibels, but much less than just pipes.

hey kids,

what wing settings are you using on the Getty Design Spec996 wing? lots of adjustments there.

heading to Road Atlanta for the first time this weekend and I suspect rear downforce will be nice to have

It's so track and driver dependent that I would be hard pressed to give you advice. I've run it anywhere from flat to full wing. I tend to prefer more wing than less.
