BTW, the 99' cars were lighter than the 2000/2001 cars. Don't know why or where, but they are....

Are you going to keep the silver one now that you have two?

2550 is really low, but attainable without any CF or fiberglass. I'm planning to race mine at the minimum weight with a passenger seat in the car, and some ballast. I sounds really light, but I promise it's attainable without spending anything more than time and effort.

Yes, My brother-in-law is driving the Black one. We both may need some help from you over this winter. Talk to you this weekend about it.

Ah, cool. Now I see that info in another part of this thread--sorry I missed it before.
I may not actually be able to make it this weekend--will know for sure in the AM. I have an overseas trip that was to start next Tuesday (no problem with going to ECR this weekend) that I may now need to depart for on Sunday instead (big problem coming to the track this weekend).
I told John S that I would let him know early in the morning when I know for sure. So if I am not there Saturday morning, let's talk via email or phone instead.

My '02 3.6L should be about 2800, I'll try to get it on the scales at ECR this weekend. I still have the fat boy stock battery, both cats, and alot of unneed wiring.

Right, but the 996 is never going to incur $25K gearbox and $25k engine rebuilds. Even if you get close to the price of a Cup Car in what it takes you to build it, what it's going to cost you over the next 2 to 3 years to run the car is going to be tens of thousands of dollars less.
996C2 is a great platform. and watching old man gordon flying, i would have built my from a C2 not a GT3.
what i was saying is that b/c the C2 has so much potential and so cheap to operate, one will likely take it lighter, and develop it more thus it's in the GT3 class (hp/wt ratio class ) in POC and not in spec 996. spec 996 while even cheaper, it really limits what the car can do. go to a POC race and see how fast those 996c2 are. one you see them going you would wonder why stick to the spec class when for another 10k, you can be so much faster.

I spent about $7k transforming my 996 Spec into the GT3 racer it is today. All I did was lighten it with glass doors & hood ($2k), Lexan f & r ($1k), CF roof ($1,5k), and lightening the wiring harness along with dash removal ($2k). I did a GIAC ECU flash ($600), and I installed the larger 997S 3.8exhaust manifolds since they were free. Hell I even have the stock air box. I run the same suspension only with Yokohama slicks and I'm 3 seconds faster at pretty much every track we run. Dyno'd at 250 in Spec form, 270 with flash and larger manifolds. We weigh around 2625 w/driver(160) on fumes....
I'd love to hear other weight savings ideas. I know the unused muffler brackets are probably 5 lbs. each, but I need them once a year for Laguna,...

Three Wheelin'
Walt has been working on final proofing of the rules. We had a nice exchange over the Spec996 class.
Let's hope it takes hold here in the Northeast. I think it would be a great Class to see how far the Mrk1 can really stretch its legs.

Just as a data point- I looked back at my Spec996 build cost, you have to pay to play. It totaled about $15k: cup car replica cage, seat, accusump, LWFW, oil seperator, GT3 motor mounts, moving electronics, wiring, 3rd radiator, etc. I already had the PSS9s mounted, so the JRZ suspension is for a later time. Also pending is the Spec996 wing and LSD.
The good news is that I sold almost $7k of parts out of the car; GT3 seats, roll bar, mufflers, stereo, etc.
If I had the time and skills I could have saved a lot of labor cost.
