Has anyone used the suction cup mount on their PCM display instead of the windshield? I don’t have an issue with the GPS signal doing so, but wasn’t sure it was a great idea for the PCM screen itself?

I can’t say, but I’ve seen people install a dozen triple small suction cup mounts for VBOX OLED onto PCM screens without apparent damage.

could always try adding a screen protector as well, to prevent damage to the screen itself. I'm using this one, bit haven't used the catalyst yet

Major concern for me would be weight. Also the positioning of the internal GPS antenna (located on the upper half of the back of the case, forward facing) might be too low.

Folks,

I bought one on black friday and just put it to its first test at Chukwalla.
Here is the video of my run

I had the camera mounted and the garmin catalyst itself almost next to each other on the windshield (was debating to put on PCM) and worked out great.

Also here is the video with the Porsche Track precision for comparison

One finnicky thing it did during the initial setup at the track that i was planning to run CW but the only track listed after clicking "DRIVE" was CCW. So i still selected CCW but ran CW and it worked ok.
Let me know what you guys think

Thanks,
ZG

The video that you posted had lots of data displayed. I just checked my Catalyst video, and all I see I mph and segment time. In contrast you have: Lap Time, Best Lap, Last Lap, Track Map at the top of windshield a Speedo up there too. That's why I wonder if this is a Catalyst video, or, you figured out how to do an over lay of the Catalyst video?

Let me know what you guys think. I have heard the CW and CCW story before from another Catalyst user...and it doesn't seem to matter.

Thanks,

Hi Martin,

thanks and yes it is the garmin catalyst camera. Picture of the setup is below.
This video is not directly off the sd card. There are couple steps after you copy the video file from the sd card.
1: Copy video from sd card to laptop/computer
2: export .fit or .gpx file from the Garmin connect app (need to make an account if you do not have one)
3: Download Garmin Virb editor program and import the video file and gpx file for data and overlay them with the speedo, laptimer etc..

Couple of this might be tricky to do and unfortunately garmin does not have steps/procedures in manual to help.

Let me know if this is clear or not
FYI: i live in san diego ( i see your signature says solana beach)

Why is it every time I turn around there's another "toy" I need. Is there any other hobby that has so many great new toys?!?!?

Not sure if anyone has posted similar, but working with our partner RaceCom we now have a Garmin to IMSA cord available. This way you don’t have to figure out Bluetooth or anything. 6’ long. $60. I’ll have it on our website later today and I’ll post a link, but we already sold out of our initial run and hopefully have more coming next week. Also making a Garmin to Stilo version.

That is excellent!

Do you think the strain on the 3.5mm jack will be a problem over time? I ask as I have had a number of 3.5mm jacks on intercoms fail over the years. If you were to attach the cable to the mount to prevent strain that might be ideal.

Yes, eventually will pull the jack from the board. Fastening to the mount is good. That’s what I would recommend.

BT works well, too. A short version of this to a helmet mounted BT receiver obviates the issue. Or through the PCM.

Do you have the next cable to put the audio onto SCHD video? Then you would have the prompts recorded on video with data....

Why would anyone want to do that?

By then, it's too late to make good use of the information from the Catalyst!
