If someone wants to merge all the pdfs into one, here is the manual in parts:

What is needed to get the Chinese clone (firmware 1.6.0) to talk to the PIWIS 3 software running in VM?

VAS6154 needs v 1.6.6.0.

IIRC @JB911 was at one point running or trying to run under VM.

I still run my older Vas, changing the date on the computer to 2020 to connect. As soon as Piwis identifies the vehicle and connects, I return the date to 2023. An irritant, but it still works. I'll eventually get a 1.6.6 version, or maybe the Autel VCI, which is supposedly faster. @rnlst_loghas shown that it works-but the VAS is much cheaper anyway, so I'll probably just upgrade to a 1.6.6 VAS 6154-
I've had too may expenses with other things to even bother, my PIWIS works fine as is.

Autel is still not up to par as it has trouble with DME IIRC.

I would update to 41.4 or 41.8 preferably as it has the new CAMPAIGN option which incorporates TSBs etc. In my case essential as the idiotic and only dealer in the State refuses to perform the TSB claiming it's VIN dependent when there's nothing in the document that states VINs just cars affected (Cayenne and 992). Alas PNA won't do squat to force them; that's what happens when you have only one dealer...

Have a weekend and stay dry!

Update on my own fool's errand of getting a PIWIS 3 VMWare up and running with a Chinese VAS6154a clone: I now have mastered getting the imprint done with the keygen so I can destroy it and recreate an imprint for the PIWIS3. I got a link for a V1.6 version of the Vx Manager. Unfortunately the installer also brings a little virus along but who cares as long as it only goes onto a siloed VM.

With that version installed I do now see the three standard licenses on the head valid until 2030 and its firmware reported as 1.6.6.0. I can also run the ACTIA D-PDU API Tester and at least now it sees a module. Am I correct in assuming the tests PDUModuleConnect and onwards would only complete with the head connected to an actual car or are they all are supposed to pass with the VAS6154a connected to the PC only:

OK so I've combined the developer manual and turned it over to @Robb M. for an opinion/ruling in the Moderator Forum. As I see it there are two issues:

1) Where to put this and other reference manuals. My suggestion is to create a new Forum called PIWIS where all these can be placed with other Forums created if there's interest (for example Autel, Launch...)

2) An exception to the size rule given the 72+MB file size.

I'll keep you all posted. Thanks John for posting them.

OK, after a bit more research and fiddling I got it to work! Now the VAS6154a is talking to PIWIS3 and ready for some diagnostics.

Shout out to @rnlst_log for getting me going.

Bought a dell latitude 3420 with i5 from the dell refurbished store. Tried to find a few thinkpad t480 for around 200 from reddit/other classifieds but they were sold pretty quickly.

had some trouble at first with the acronis image but rnlst gave me a diff one to try.
secureboot and raid mode needs to be off.

after that, it was smooth sailing.

I was able to connect to the car, haven't done anything yet.

my goal is to log data from a few sensors at a time to figure out the stumble issue.

My PIWIS showed up today.... ordered from a user on a popular social media site which has a Panamera group. It's installed on a Dell ruggidized tablet PC, and included a VAS 6154 interface and all cables. Very reasonable at $850 shipped to my door. Haven't hooked it up to the car yet, but blame work for that... more updates as situation warrants!
