It says original shell, so not oem, just a clone in a fancy shell.

Bur if the battery is already fully charged, then you should only need to deal with the amount consumed by the vehicle electronics during the work.
Thanks, ordered the 25A Victron BlueSmart IP65 Charger that includes the clamps, will make sure any battery charging is done before PIWIS work.

I would still cough up for a 90A charger per the manual. I tried hooking my car to a large SUV without a smart alternator and it did not satisfy PIWIS. The PIWIS will give an alert at a certain voltage, then not allow you to use it at a lower voltage. My battery is relatively new and I keep an eye on the voltage while messing with my PIWIS. I have my external power supply set to 13.5v, and I notice the voltage readout on the dash will drop a bit, especially when diagnosing faults or coding, the power supply fan comes on and it slowly creeps back up to 13.5. That tells me the car is drawing quite a bit of current. I dont think climate control comes on without the engine running, but be sure to turn off all the lights by holding the headlight button as well. You can corrupt modules if the voltage drops too low or PIWIS craps out at the wrong time. I suppose YMMV though.

25A 😂
Better get at least 75
Even the 997 requires 40

I used this and cut the ends off some cheap 6ga jumper cables. It looked like the price went up about 30 bucks since then tho. It was cheaper than what a forum member suggested to me. I forget the name, but this was essentially the same thing just with a different sticker on it. Either way its cheap insurance. You're in for a hefty tow and repair bill from the dealer if something bad happens. Also your car will likely be sitting a while waiting on a super backordered computer from Germany.

Thanks, Mech33 noted around 10.5A draw in use, would also more trust Victron's voltage regulation over the ones I've seen recommended.
I built a UPS using their 3000W 24V MultiPlus with two Battle Born 100Ah LFP batteries, quality stuff.

Hi all, I'm trying to get a PIWIS system up and running - I had a 6154 clone which snapped the USB socket the moment I tried to use it. So I've got a new PT3G coming on the advice of @rnlst_log but I can't seem to get the software part working. I have a "passthrough" VM up and running but I cannot work out how to activate the PIWIS. I don't even know if this VM will work with the PT3G. Also, I'd prefer to run a native install instead of a VM but again, getting the files that @Lucifer suggested earlier in the thread have not proved fruitful.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? I have the laptop, VCI, I'm an IT Engineer by trade so know what I'm doing to set things up, it's just getting the right things! Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

I can't help with the new part. My USB snapped on my 6154. So I now I use it wirelessly. Have you tried that?

Unfortunately I actually returned it to the seller before I realised or remembered about the wireless connection!

it’s ok, the new PT3G is coming tomorrow, and I’ve managed to get my VM activated, what I don’t know is if anything special is needed to get the Pt3g working in the VM I’m running.

well I've got the PT3G and it's recognised by the VNCI Device manager but not by the Actia tester, and I can't connect to the car. I can't work out why. Pulling my hair out here and I was an IT Consultant!

Ok I’m making progress. Waiting on some help from @rnlst_log but in the meantime I’ve built a new laptop with a native PIWIS install and restored the OEM driver for PT3G and now I can connect to the car!

however automatic identification doesn’t work (not sure it’s supposed to) and although I have it in V mode I believe, I’m still seeing modules I don’t have and In German on the information. Any ideas why that might be?
