Until you need warranty service. My last experience with a GM “luxury” car was miserable. $#irbox loaners, week long waits for appointments followed by week long waits for parts, dirty waiting rooms with daytime tv blaring away. Suddenly, the “bargain” is a burden. But you can console yourself by looking at the downstream offerings in the showroom. Yuck.
My experience with Porsche, Audi and BMW has been outstanding.
How much you want to bet that this bleeding edge (for gm) car is going to need a lot of service?
You got that right, it was like being in a Pep Boys waiting room. My highlight there was when I drew a straight flush playing coffee-cup poker with the vending machine..
60k, 500hp, and 3300 lbs? Oh man. This or a base 718?
That's 500 NATURALLY ASPIRATED hp. No turbos.
718? Hell, this'll go up against and, most likely, eat the 911's lunch. And when they get the ZO version out? Look out GT3! Blasphemy, I know, but if the base is 500hp, what will the ZO offer?
I've never even owned an American car and still don't have much of a desire to, but I gotta give credit where credit is due. The C8 feels fresh while retaining the Corvette ethos as far as I can tell. Love them trying the ME layout, retaining NA engine, interior finish seems higher quality, *and* supposedly still starting under 60K making it way affordable for many
THIS sums it up perfectly. I’m holding judgement till I hear, read or see more. That GM decided *not* to appreciably raise the price of this totally re-engineered vette to pay for their investment is remarkable. Market competition is a beautiful thing.
I tend to agree with the fussiness of the design comments but I nevertheless like it. I particularly think that higher wing on the blue car balances out the profile nicely from a macro view. I assume that is part of an option package that we didn't see in the big reveal last night?
It's the high wing option that's available in the configurator.
"It’s official, the C8 Corvette is here, and it’s poised to take down the likes of Porsche. With a starting price point of under $60,000, it’s going to down both the Cayman and the 911, at the same time, too."
Yeah: LIKE driving the Audi to work: these crazy things people do!
Not gonna happen like w/ Audi, BMW, VW, Ferrari, and if i dare say, (Porsche) who've had their share of lemons.
You'll probably be able to drive these new Vettes to work or whatever.
If you want to start a lemon count - between GM (or Chevy, if that will help) and just about any of the manufactures you mention, it might get comical.
Wow... never thought I would hear “the Vette is a pure sports car” in a Porsche forum...
My money goes to the 992 all day. And I celebrate the corvette and wish it success as well...
To be fair we don't know how good a sports car it will be. What we have been fed so far is a bunch of hype. But in this instance GM has clearly recognized that they have some competition and need to step up their game. How long has it been since Porsche has done that?
The attitude that comes across in the videos above counts for a lot in my book, even if the car itself isn't a good fit for my tastes.

Never claimed otherwise. I just hope the General put the performance resources into this program, as they have historically. My worry is their skimping on basic quality issues. I have full confidence in the powertrain. It remains to be seen how all of it stacks-up.
I expect several first-hand reports soon. When is your test drive, OD?
I've never been a Vette fan but I must say there's nothing out there that comes close to this for 60K! Nothing!
And that's the point entirely.
Audi should have faced lawsuits for their oil consumption issues and engine failures, including the last 5~10 years. God for what you pay for their cars + maintenance program alone, you should be covered for new engines. Instead, you're their guinea pigs.

Well, my beater car finally blew up. i've got the cream puff V8 4 door Jag i picked up in Mission Viejo in '16 (Racing Green!) . No reason to think it doesn't have a long life ahead--so, no reason not to enjoy it 12 months out of the year. And there's a certain 944 driver who posts around here that hints about how i left a few maintenance items pile up on the Sledgehammer so i could focus on the paint and interior to be to my satisfaction--a couple of the maintenance items took a long time to build up, and a few others came about in the last few 1000 miles of long interstate driving. Most of these items were quickly resolved. (Frankly i don't get what's up his ***--but whatever).
I was looking at an F-430 that had been in a wreck and had its powertrain completely removed (about exactly what i want). Trouble is, it's missing too much other stuff as well. I was keen to getting it, getting seriously hurt--and all that comes with it. However, it would be far better to focus on getting some lingering issues with the 968 resolved (first) and return to driving it more. It won't get 41k miles on busted up interstate (so quicky) as it got before. I'm gonna keep up with the maintenance (in a much more respectable & timely manner going forward).
My next beater was probably gonna be a 3.5 liter V6 Lexus.... but, hell --- what, with these good used C7 Vettes available in the mid-20's--why not just get one?
So, no C8 Vette for me now. Maybe in 3~4 years (realistically). Or i could just stand pat with a C7. I think we're also looking at a very soft used luxury market ahead, full of great bargains across the board: 911's, Cayman S, R, GT4. What a time to be a car lover!
*I think TR knows 1 particular make/model i've got my eyes on, since coming to my senses about the wrecked F430 (there's good reason it's still wrecked). A few examples have dropped below $100k--so time to hone in.
