Thoughts on the new corvette?

Because 190 vs 180 top speed makes all the difference in the world. The top speed (long straight) sections of any track are the most boring and most dreaded aspects of driving for me, by far. Couldn't wait for them to be over -- the sooner, the better. Public roads? Yea, right...

I bought a first year C6 in 2005 and you're right, it had numerous problems including burning a quart of oil every 900 miles, battery dying every few days etc. etc. So I traded it in for a new 2006 997S which had even more problems so Porsche is hardly immune from early production issues.

Has Chevy ever considered separating the Corvette from the rest of the Chevy lineup? Branch out and make it a division above Chevrolet.. We all know Cadillac is considered their higher end lineup along with GMC. It’s hard for a lot of people to look at a Corvette and not think of the Malibu’s and Cruzes built within their portfolio. Not to mention the company being bailed out during their bankruptcy..

Chevy is trying to separate the brand. You have to look hard to even find a Chevy bow tie on the Vette. Not all Chevy dealers can sell the Vette.
‘And they are not cheap cars. The ZR1 easily tops 140K. The base C8 that I ordered was 85K and some builds exceed 100k, and that’s for the base car.

When I had a C7 they had a dedicated tech to work on them and I was introduced to him and allowed to enter the shop and chat - nice guy who really seemed to know his stuff.

My experience with Porsche dealers has been no better.

even at the dealer i placed my order for the c8 had a ZL1 on the showroom floor.
The camaro is said to be discontinued in 3-4 years. When’s the last time Porsche discontinued a line?
To a lot of Porsche enthusiasts. You appreciate the purity and the rich tradition of the brand. You walk into a Porsche dealer. Nothing but 911’s on the floor

Not sure what you are implying but I bet the Vettes were placed outside to garner interest, that's all.

If you go to the dealer in Elk Grove. They’ll have two vettes sitting outside on the lot. Go inside to the showroom and you find a Camaro ZL1...

Look, I get it. I have a new 2018 boxster GTS which I love and I’m keeping, but I found the 2 Porsche dealers I dealt with to be no better than used car salesmen. I was lied to about allocations at both dealerships, and had to fight tooth and nail to get a 10k deposit back. However, I acknowledge that they build great cars, although overpriced. Purity and rich tradition mean nothing to me. Certainly not something to command a higher price. I’m more concerned with performance and reliability. I use these cars mostly on the track.

With the 928 being discontinued in 1995 as the most recent model. Chevy alone has 3 models being discontinued THIS YEAR lol
Chevy volt, Impala, Cruze, and Cruze hatchback
Not to mention the other divisions of GM discontinuing even more models this year.

Purity and rich tradition? Its a car dealer, just like any car dealer, trying to sell you a car. I really didn't feel any rich tradition. And there are Macans and Cayennes sitting in the showroom. I like your romanticized view of the car buying process, but it doesn't seem realistic. As for purity, the 996 wasn't purity of breed. Neither is turbocharging the base line of cars. Neither is moving the 911 from a sports car to a gt.
If you feel that you bought into some sort of exclusive club and that makes you more satisfied with your purchase, more power to you. But bad companies can make a good car, and good companies can make a bad car. I would rather be able to experience what is out there because it is interesting and fun to drive regardless of who made it.
