Thoughts on the new corvette?

Let's see if I understand what you are posting. Are you saying that a 10 year old 997 is superior to a 2019 C7? Since you posted for the same dollar, I have to compare used Porsche 997s to new Corvettes. Or if you want to go new to new, it would be base 718s to C7s or moderatley equipped 718Ss to Corvette Z06s. If you go to the kerbeck link you'll see lots of new Corvettes for under $50K, and some new Z06s for around $70K. I attached the link to Porsche USA for 911s in that price range.

Despite my wife's opinion of the Corvette interior (and the stigma of owning a Corvette), I'd pick a C7 Grand Sport over any Cayman except the 718 (and 981 GT4). I simply want a bit of torque. I still remember my wife laughing about her dentist shifting rapidly in his new 944 trying to keep up with her TransAm. IMO, a sports car does need power, otherwise it falls into Miata territory.

I meant what I wrote. Any 986, 996, 987, and 997 is better in driving feel than any Corvette of any year. I'd pick my 987 Boxster S over any Corvette every day and twice on Sundays.

It really depends. If you care about the car values in the future and want a more purist oriented ride, go for the GT4; however, if you don't care about value and want shear speed + theater, go for the vette. You can't go wrong either way, just depends on your goals.

And how about the stereotypes for Porsche owners? I suppose I'm secure enough in my own skin, not to be concerned if the car I drive meets or doesn't meet the approval of others. OTOH if I'm spending $100K+ for a two seat sports car, I want it to be competitive with other cars in that price range.

If you can. Might have been prepping the battlefield to try and charge me some ridiculous overage when the time comes but I just got off the phone with my local Porsche dealer. He told me he'd put me on his waiting list but he said 0 chance of getting a GT4 and highly unlikely to get a Spyder.

*Yes, I know the new 4.0 is based on the current 3.0, and Porsche will use it elsewhere.

No question that a GT4 car will hold its value better than a run of the mill C8. If you compare the resale value of a 991 vs a C7, the 991 will retain a higher percentage of its value, but it's important to look at how the cars are used. Check out the mileage on your typical 3 year old 991, and compare it to a 3 year old C7. My guess is that the C7 will have double the miles of a 991. So that's certainly a factor. The other factor is build quality. There's no question that Porsches are built to a much higher quality standard than a Corvette, notwithstanding the quality issues that have been cited in Rennlist.

I tell you what I did see though. I think most ALL of the Cayman GT4s built are for sale now. Or have been before. Literally there are 100 GT4s to pick from on Auto Trader alone. Not that Id buy one from any of those places, or from Auto Trader, I just found it well ,,,, interesting. It didn't look anyone much drove the wheels of them. As I said I would just get a new one if that was the way I was going. Get it and have it flooded well that stinks. But get it and drive it a few miles and try to flip it - nah that aint me and it aint happening in a transaction I'm in neither.
such as Boston being under water twice in 1 winter..
such as New England getting 2 months straight of wayy overhead surf in '89, 95, 96, & '17 Hurricane seasons......
such as A-Basin having it's last ski/snowboard runs of the season on Independence Day over a 24" base (just days ago).....
keep getting you're Omega-3's and Trump 2020..... it's bound to get even more interesting.

Correct;
the base is at 10,700'. You're gasping for air & full into mountain sickness before you're done with your first run.
Have we the 2020 Corvette C8??....... still not sure......
