Thoughts on the new corvette?

The basics of a sports car are acceleration, braking, and handling. Let's see how The Cayman stacks up against the C8 on braking and handling. We know it won't compete in acceleration. Those are easy to measure. Other items like quality and reliability will take some time to evaluate. What made the 718 a no go for me was that its a 4cyl.

Yep....I see no one cared to comment on that telling bit of news.
If we don't think Porsche isn't taking notice then we are delusional.
in my email today I received an email from Porsche. Think the C8 had something to do with this? Damn right it did.

Issue 07/2019Dear Mr. Xxxxxxxxx,
The "Porsche Visualizer AR app" allows you to virtually position your individually configured Porsche in your own surroundings. Admire it in your living room or park it in your garage. All you need are the app and an augmented reality-enabled smartphone or tablet.
Learn more about the Porsche Design DNA and use the X-ray view to discover hidden highlights, such as the drivetrain, for example. The exterior color and alloy wheels can be personalized and the Porsche dynamically driven using the interactive drive function.

The C8 is bolted together, sectional parts look as cheap as I've ever seen - the pressed component look very cheap and don't even look well finished. But go for it - have a look at a photo from a diagonal at the side vents and towards the rear - big big big cooling issues heading your way

Yeah, they only comment on nonsense that when debunked by facts is still ignored.

Baby boomers are 55-75
Corvette ownership has risen to an average age of 62
https://www.creditdonkey.com/golf-pl...mographic.html
"Although plenty of single men and women enjoy playing a round, golf is a sport that's primarily dominated by married folks. An estimated 68% of all golfers are married."
"As of 2013, approximately 24 million people in the U.S. played golf at least once per year."
"The largest percentage of golfers is composed of men between the ages of 18 and 59"
Sure seems like they know their target market a lot better than you do.

Majority of the 911 buyers are not cross-shopping a Corvette -- any generation of Corvettes.
While many 911 owners/potential buyers might admire and appreciate a Corvette for what it is and for what GM may have accomplished with the C8, few are going to decide to trade in a 911 for a C8, or forgo the purchase of a 911 (be it a 991 or 992) for a C8.
A car like the 911 is an aspirational purchase. Folks making 400k/year (which is about the median income of most 911 owners) don't really consider a Corvette to be a suitable substitute for a 911. An Aston? Maybe. An Audi R8? Perhaps. An AMG GT S? Sure. But a 'Vette? No.
Is that a logical decision? No, but then few things are when it comes to aspirational purchases. Just ask those ladies who are in line for a Birkin.

It's pretty pathetic that Porsche has turned into an aspirational luxury goods company.
They can only milk that so long.
C8 has potential to hurt the 718 and Carrera markets, especially the pre-owned markets.
Would you rather have a new top of the line C8 for less than a 2014 GT3 with a documented engine issue that will be a nightmare to own out of warranty? I know what I'd take ....

Not to mention, Porsche's number one selling model?? The Macan. No way avg income is even close to $400K for those buyers. Super competitive market there and Porsche could lose ground there quick. Those buyers have little loyalty other than wanting a luxury bag there.
Porsche sports cars sales have been flat and declining for years.

Porsche sells out every GT3 they can make when it comes out, with ADM’s that almost reach the cars MSRP. If you can even get one.
If they were “dreaming of such success” they’d release a sub $60K 911. Instead I imagine they’ll settle for being far more profitable than GM without having to release a Trax.

There are still a ton of brand new 2018's GT3's on Autotrader right now...... and plenty of 2019's
If Porsche could make a car as good as the C8 for $60k perhaps they sale a **** ton also.
I don't think they're worried too much about GT3 sales though, but you can bet they're having meetings right now about how to sale
their $60k 300hp 4 banger sports car now that the C8 was announced
I wonder how those new GT4 sales are doing right now? Probably fell off the cliff once this was announced

As a non-Corvette, non-Porsche guy, there is no way in hell would I buy one Porsche when I could almost get two C8's(one for the track and one for the DD) but that's just me.... I used to be hot and heavy for the 981 Cayman, but now I think I'd much rather hold out for the C8 if and when I decide to sell the NSX...it's important to ignore the value

I said somewhere up above that about half the GT4s even made are for sale right now. Go to Autotrader and see about 10 pages of GT4s. Owners are trying to scrub a few dollars out of them before the new GT4s come that don't have to be a limited edition car. And they better peddle harder with the C8 sopping up the sales. Let's see they are about gone in a couple of weeks and what maybe a handful of Gt4s traded.
I bet Porsche is watching and see's what is going on with the new Corvette - and if they don't then I'd say they are way too smug.
It's laughable that somehow it was presented above that only guys with money have 911s. You can be very assured that guys with money have Corvettes too. Yeah its ok if electricians and plumbers can get one too.
Aspirational purchase - dang I should have known this 30+ years ago huh? Both for Porsche and Harley purchases. I just wanted what I wanted and those looked good at the time. Sports cars and motorcycles are toys, and the first hiccup in the economy puts both on the slides.
I'm not buying a status symbol or thinking hey I'll flip this for some vacation money. I'm buying the FUN it brings!

Trust me, most of the guys who REALLY have $$$ aren't driving Porsche's. More likely to find them driving big pick ups and not looking at latest lease rates and how to try and time the market to minimize depreciation they can't afford.
Aspirational luxury goods are showing off what many can't really afford anyway.
