i have found a very low mileage '17 base model. it won't last FS - so i am on the fence about trim but only owing to power. and need to pull the trigger or not.

given i am coming from a 575rwhp p turbo ( am not hoping to replicate that, as it can't be done with a base or even "turbo" macan ) but my concern has to do with all the timing cover leakage issues that seem(?) to be more prevalent in the 3.0 v6 motored iteration.

my question for the learned owners here - - is the base model 2.0 ( similar to the 2.0 fsi which i have in my tuned GTI? ) immune from this issue. if so, i'm going to grab a ( or this one ) base model 2.0 and re-map it. my gut tells me this is the more prudent approach rather than spend for the trim packaged 3.0 models that have these issues seemingly. i could easily live with a 2.0 re-mapped ( cobb/api whomever ) to pushing 300 crank hp.

i have in the past battled PCNA successfully over design issue failures but that was with a CPO'd car ( this may or may not be depending ) and i'd like to avoid the known pitfalls.

i.e. transfer case failures and timing cover leakage. at least PCNA has extended their factory warranties re the transfer case? that takes a LOT of failures.

as mentioned, i have personally been down this road with VAG and also PCNA in my 911's before. any advice is appreciated. thanks.

The base 2.0 does not have the oil leak problem. The issue is with the V6 in the S and GTS.

yes, i have gathered that and thought i had replied? part of the thread was moved ( by you? ) or a mod owing to my rambling often tangential discourse.

thanks again for the info. i am opting for a base model and will "tune" it. it will more than suffice in terms of "power" once re-mapped and at a cost savings.

What about newly made 2021+ Macan S and GTS? Would they still be afflicted by this problem or is it a thing of the past?

Way too early to tell! But 2019+ V6s are completely different and supplied by Audi and no longer made by Porsche.

The easy way to remember this is that all Gen I Macans (2015-2018) with a V6 are prone to this issue.... some develop the problem and some don’t. It’s the lottery you don’t want to win.

Is it still under warranty? It came with a 4/50. When was it titled? Carfax and/or Autocheck will show this as well as any Porsche dealership. You might get lucky.

I am in the marking of a GTS, and came across this thread.
Searched if there is a TSB for this, and found this:

40k 15 Macan S here. Had mine replaced after a PPI found it. Luckily I had 2 months left on the CPO warranty.

Interesting - I wonder what resealed means in the technical sense. It sounded to me like the oil leak is caused by the aluminum bolts shearing? Is there a gasket/sealant that also fails which requires replacing, or does reseal simply mean replacing broken bolts? Interesting...

Most likely due the seal between the timing cover and engine block is compromised due to inadequate support from the bolts. So Porsche is recommending to reseal (is it a gasket?) to maintain integrity of the seal. Or maybe resealing is standard procedure whenever those bolts are removed.
